ACR CL65 FLC EXECUTES A GAR WHEN TCASII RA OBSERVED C172 CUTS IN FRONT OF HIM ON SHORT FINAL TO MYR.

Narrative

WE (ACFT X) WERE ON A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 17 MYR. WE WERE APPROX 3 MI OUT AND CLRED TO LAND WHEN WE RECEIVED A TCASII AURAL TFC ALERT; FOLLOWED BY A MONITOR VERT SPD COMMAND. I OBSERVED A TARGET (ACFT Y) ON TCASII AT 11 O'CLOCK POS; 1 MI AND LOWER THAN OUR ACFT. I THEN SIGHTED THE ACFT VISUALLY. WE HAD ALREADY BEGUN A LEVELOFF WHEN WE RECEIVED AN RA CLB COMMAND. I WAS THE PF AND IMMEDIATELY EXECUTED A MISSED APCH. THE FO (PNF) ASKED ATC WHAT'S GOING ON. THE TWR CTLR THEN ASKED IF WE WERE GOING AROUND. WE CONFIRMED THE GAR AND WERE RESEQUENCED INTO THE TFC PATTERN FOR A NORMAL VISUAL APCH AND LNDG. WHEN WE FIRST TURNED FINAL ON THE FIRST APCH; I RECALL THE TWR CTLR INSTRUCT A VFR C172 TO FOLLOW US VISUALLY AND INDICATED HE WAS #2. I CALLED THE TWR WHEN WE ARRIVED AT THE GATE AND THE TWR CTLR INDICATED THAT THE CESSNA HAD US VISUALLY AND INDICATED HE WOULD FOLLOW US. I THINK THAT THE TWR CTLR WAS WORKING SEVERAL ACFT IN THE PATTERN THAT WERE DOING TOUCH AND GOES. DURING OUR TURN TO FINAL; I OBSERVED 2 TARGETS THAT APPEARED TO BE ON L DOWNWIND FOR RWY 17. ONE ACFT HAD MADE A STATEMENT TO THE TWR CTLR; THAT HE WAS GOING TO REMAIN CLOSE TO THE ARPT UNTIL HE WAS SURE HIS ENG WAS GOING TO RUN SMOOTHLY. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS COULD HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE CESSNA TURNING IN EARLY. I THINK THE CTLR DID WHAT WAS REQUIRED TO ENSURE SEPARATION HAD THE CESSNA COMPLIED WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS. THIS SEQUENCE OF EVENTS HAPPENED VERY QUICKLY. I AM THANKFUL FOR TCASII.
