CAPT OF A B757 TAXIED AROUND ANOTHER B757 HOLDING DUE TO NOT HEARING THE COMPLETE TAXI INSTRUCTIONS AND NOT VERIFYING INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE CONTINUING AROUND IN FRONT OF THE OTHER ACFT.
Narrative
BY NOT HEARING AN ENTIRE TAXI CLRNC; AND NOT VERIFYING WITH MY FO; I MANAGED TO TAXI IN FRONT OF ANOTHER B757 (SITTING STILL) ON AN INTERSECTING TXWY; WHERE THE GND CTLR ACTUALLY WANTED US SEQUENCED BEHIND THE AIRPLANE. ON OUR INITIAL CALL-UP FOR TAXI WE WERE PLANNING ON RWY 16L. DUE TO AN EMER ACFT ON FINAL TO RWY 16L; ATC NOW STARTED USING RWY 17 FOR DEPS. AT THE SAME TIME AS WE RECEIVED OUR FIRST CLRNC TO START TAXI TOWARDS RWY 17; I ASKED THE FO TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAD PERFORMANCE FOR THE NEW RWY; WHICH HE CHKED AND TOLD ME THAT WE WERE LEGAL FOR RWY 17. THAT CONVERSATION PLUS THE FACT THAT I MYSELF WAS PREOCCUPIED THINKING THAT MAYBE WE WOULD BE BETTER OFF USING THE LONGER RWY 16R WAS ENOUGH TO NOT CORRECTLY UNDERSTAND THE SECOND TAXI INSTRUCTIONS. THERE WAS NO CONFLICT WITH THE OTHER B757; SINCE HE WAS SITTING STILL WITH HIS TAXI LIGHTS TURNED OFF. I WAS ALSO FULLY AWARE OF HIM AS I CROSSED IN FRONT OF HIM. ONCE AGAIN DID I LEARN TO ALWAYS VERIFY ANY CLRNC; WITH EITHER ATC OR YOUR OTHER CREW MEMBERS; BEFORE PROCEEDING.
