FLT ATTENDANT RPT; B757; YVR-JFK; ON APCH TO JFK; NOSE GEAR WOULDN'T LOCK; EMER DECLARED. LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. MET BY EMER PERSONNEL.

Narrative

AFTER PLTS SAID 'PREPARE FOR LNDG' AT JFK; WE KEPT FLYING ABOUT 30 MINS. THE CAPT MADE A PA AND SAID THERE WAS A PROB WITH THE NOSE GEAR NOT LOCKING; AND HE'D GET BACK TO US. ONE MORE PA WAS MADE BY THE CAPT REGARDING THE COCKPIT BEING IN TOUCH WITH MAINT TRYING TO RESOLVE THE PROB AND HE'D LET US KNOW WHAT HAPPENS; BUT NOT TO WORRY AT THIS POINT. THE CAPT CAME OUT OF THE COCKPIT AND TOLD ME (FLT ATTENDANT #1) NOT TO WORRY; THEY HAVE PLENTY OF FUEL; STILL TRYING TO RESOLVE THE PROB. NEXT PA WAS 'FLT ATTENDANTS; PREPARE FOR LNDG' AND THEY'D GOTTEN THE LNDG GEAR DOWN AND LOCKED. WE LANDED WITHOUT INCIDENT AND WERE MET BY MANY SUPVRS AND MEDICAL PERSONNEL; AGENTS AND SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE OFFERING ASSISTANCE TO PAX AND FLT ATTENDANTS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THAT THE CAPT NEVER TOLD THE FLT ATTENDANTS THAT HE HAD DECLARED AN EMER AND THE FLT ATTENDANTS WERE SO SURPRISED THAT ALL THESE EMER PERSONNEL MET THE FLT. SHE THOUGHT THIS SHOWED VERY POOR COM SKILLS. SHE ASSUMES THAT THEY FIXED THE NOSE GEAR PROBS BEFORE THEY LANDED.
