Narrative
WE RAN OVER 3 OF 4 TEMPORARY TAXI LIGHTS DURING NIGHT TAXI AFTER LNDG. TAXIED SE ON TXWY P AT MIA; FOLLOWING THE CTRLINE LIGHTS. HELD SHORT OF TXWY Y FOR A DEPARTING ACFT L TO R. THE CTRLINE LIGHTS CEASED AT TXWY Y; BUT BEGAN AGAIN STRAIGHT AHEAD SE OF TXWY Y. CONSTRUCTION WAS IN VIEW; AS NOTAMED; AHEAD AND TO THE R ON TXWY Q (NOT ON TXWY P). SOME EQUIP WAS PARKED ON THE GRASS BTWN TXWY P AND TXWY Q AND MARKED WITH RED LIGHTS. AFTER RESUMING TAXI; I CTRED THE NOSEWHEEL ON THE 'CTRLINE LIGHTS' AGAIN; BUT HEAVIER WHEEL THUMPS THAN NORMAL TOLD ME THESE WERE NOT NORMAL CTRLINE LIGHTS. I THEN REALIZED THAT THESE WERE BLUE LIGHTS; NOT GREEN CTRLINE LIGHTS; AND THAT THE BOUNDARY OF TXWY Y (NOW PART OF THE RAMP) HAD BEEN DISPLACED E BY THESE LIGHTS. WE STEERED CLR (L) AND NOTED THAT THE STRING OF LIGHTS WAS NOW EXTINGUISHED. I INSTRUCTED THE FO TO INFORM GND CTL THAT WE HAD PUT THEIR LIGHTS OUT; BUT THE ACFT BEHIND US WAS ALREADY INFORMING GND CTL. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: 1) THIS B727 WAS NOT EQUIPPED WITH TAXI LIGHTS. 2) PERFECT ALIGNMENT OF THE TXWY P CTRLINE LIGHTS WITH THE TEMPORARY RAMP EDGE LIGHTS. 3) NO RED LIGHTS (NOR ANY OBSTRUCTION) ON ANY PART OF THE RAMP -- JUST ON THE OBSTRUCTIONS ON THE GRASS AND THE TXWY Q; AND 4) A SENSE OF RELAXATION IS NATURAL AFTER A LNDG WHEN THERE IS APPARENT 'SMOOTH SAILING' TO PARKING. THE REDUCED VIGILANCE BIT US THIS TIME. INSTEAD; WE SHOULD HAVE APPLIED THE OLD ADAGE 'FLY IT ALL THE WAY TO THE GATE.' SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 458640: I INFORMED THE CAPT TO TURN L SEVERAL TIMES; BUT NO ACTION WAS TAKEN UNTIL WE WERE INTO THE LIGHTS. HE SAID HE THOUGHT THEY WERE CTRLINE LIGHTS. THE ACFT WE WERE OPERATING IS NOT EQUIPPED WITH NOSEWHEEL TAXI LIGHTS. NIGHT OPS WITH NOSEWHEEL TAXI LIGHTS WOULD ENHANCE SAFETY UNDER THESE CONDITIONS.
