ACR FLC EXPERIENCES TRACK DEV DEPARTING ROA.
Narrative
ON THE NIGHT OF JAN/THU/00; THE FO CALLED ROANOKE CLRNC DELIVERY FOR ACR X TO PHL AND RECEIVED AN IFR CLRNC AS FILED VIA DIRECT GORDONSVILLE. I READ BACK 'CLRED AS FILED DIRECT GORDONSVILLE.' THE FO ASKED IF WE HAD BEEN ASSIGNED 350 DEG HDG THE PREVIOUS NIGHT. I REPLIED 'NO; 235 DEGS; STRAIGHT OFF RWY 24; THEN 350 DEGS.' ON TKOF I CHKED AND TOLD THE FO WHO WAS FLYING THE ACFT CLR L ANTICIPATING A VFR TURN TOWARD PARTE INTXN WITHIN 2 NM OF ARPT; THENCE DIRECT GORDONSVILLE. AS WE STARTED THE L TURN; TWR ASKED WHERE WE WERE GOING. (REPLIED; NOT UNDERSTANDING IF IT WAS AN ATC OR FLT PLAN QUESTION.) THE TWR REPLIED WE WERE ASSIGNED 235 DEG HDG IN OUR CLRNC. THE FO VERIFIED THE HEADING HAD BEEN ASSIGNED DURING THE CLRNC. WE TURNED TO 235 DEGS AND WERE XFERRED TO DEP CTL. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 462171: CLRNC CLRED US TO MAINTAIN 235 DEG HDG ON DEP FROM RWY 24. FO (ME) READ BACK THE CLRNC AND COPIED IT ON THE FLT PLAN. I THOUGHT THE CAPT HAD UNDERSTOOD THE CLRNC AND I MENTIONED THE HEADING (235 DEGS) TO HIM. HE MADE A STRANGE COMMENT WHICH I TOOK TO MEAN THAT HE UNDERSTOOD THE CLRNC. ACTUALLY HE DID NOT HEAR THE CLRNC OR HE HEARD IT AND HAD TUNED IT OUT DUE TO OTHER PEOPLE (MECH OR LOAD SUPVR OR THE FE) IN THE COCKPIT. WHEN TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF THEY DID NOT REMIND US OF THE 235 DEG HDG AND I MENTIONED IT TO THE CAPT WHEN HE SAID THAT WE COULD TURN L OUT OF TFC AFTER TKOF AND PROCEED TO PHILADELPHIA. WHEN THE CAPT SAID 'TURN L' AFTER TKOF; I SAID THAT WASN'T OUR CLRNC AND 'DO YOU WANT TO CHK WITH TWR BEFORE WE TURN JUST TO MAKE SURE.' HE SAID 'NO; TURN NOW' AND I DID EVEN THOUGH I WAS NOW CONFUSED...BECAUSE I THOUGHT THAT HE KNEW SOMETHING THAT I DIDN'T; SINCE HE HAD FLOWN OUT OF ROANOKE FOR MANY YEARS.
