B757 CREW DID NOT FOLLOW THE RADICAL PWR REDUCTION ON THE SNA NOISE ABATEMENT PROC.

Narrative

POSSIBLE NOISE VIOLATION. WE WERE FLYING FLT ABCD FROM SNA-DFW ON FEB/WED/00. IT WAS THE FO'S FIRST TRIP TO SNA AFTER TRAINING. I CONDUCTED A DETAILED ARR/DEP BRIEFING BECAUSE HE WAS NEW. ALL PROCS WERE EXACTLY FOLLOWED PER OUR MANUAL. AT 800 FT THE VNAV BUTTON WAS PRESSED BUT THE DEEP PWR CUT DID NOT APPEAR TO WORK. I IMMEDIATELY MANUALLY PULLED THE PWR BACK TO ABOUT 1.4 EPR. THE PWR REDUCTION HAD OBVIOUSLY OCCURRED LATER THAN PLANNED. THE CLB 2 BUTTON WAS PRESSED AND VERIFIED PRIOR TO DEP BUT I SUSPECT SOMEWHERE BTWN THIS VERIFICATION AND OUR DEP THIS CLB 2 SELECTION DISAPPEARED OR THE THRUST RATING PANEL MALFUNCTIONED. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS OCCUR BEFORE BUT I DO EXPECT THIS PROB COULD HAVE CAUSED A NOISE VIOLATION/NOTATION. I FELT A PWR REDUCTION AT 800 FT BUT IT PROBABLY JUST WENT TO NORMAL CLB PWR. THE PROFILE THAT OCCURRED WAS EXACTLY WHAT WE WOULD DO IF WE HAD A AUTOTHROTTLE OR A FLT DIRECTOR PROB. WE AGAIN BOTH VERIFIED AND SAW A CLB 2 ANNUNCIATION ON THE UPPER EICAS SET IN; BUT WHERE IT WENT; I DO NOT KNOW. FROM NOW ON I WILL VERIFY THIS CLB 2 SETTING/DERATE BEFORE TAKING THE RWY FOR TKOF.
