Synopsis

CL65 CREW FAILS TO COMPLETE PARKING CHKLIST. ENG IS LEFT RUNNING UNTIL DISCOVERED ON PREFLT FOR NEXT FLT.

Narrative

THE SHIP'S APU WAS INOP; REQUIRING THE ACFT TO BE PARKED AT A JETWAY WITH GND PWR. ONCE AT THE GATE THE L ENG WAS SHUT DOWN WHILE THE R ENG WAS STILL RUNNING SO AS TO PROVIDE PWR UNTIL THE GND PWR COULD BE HOOKED UP. IN THE PROCESS OF COMPLETING THIS; WE OPENED THE COCKPIT DOOR TO INFORM THE FLT ATTENDANT TO OPEN THE MAIN CABIN DOOR SO THE JETWAY COULD BE MOVED INTO PLACE AND GND PWR HOOKED UP. DURING THIS PROCESS; THE PAX WERE ALL STANDING AND CROWDING TOWARDS THE DOOR AND THE FLT ATTENDANT WHO WAS WAITING FOR THE WALKWAY TO BE SECURED AND MAINTAIN CTL OF AN UNACCOMPANIED MINOR AT THE SAME TIME. IN AN ATTEMPT TO HELP THE FLT ATTENDANT WE CALLED THE MINOR INTO THE COCKPIT. DURING THIS TIME WE WERE STILL WAITING FOR GND PWR TO BE HOOKED UP. AT THIS TIME I THOUGHT THE CHKLIST WAS DONE ONCE PWR WAS INSTALLED AND PWR WAS XFERRED. HOWEVER; THE R ENG WAS STILL RUNNING. I DISCOVERED THE ENG STILL RUNNING DURING THE POSTFLT WALKAROUND AND SUBSEQUENTLY SECURED THE ENG. I ALSO FOUND THE BEACON ON; AND THE NOSE LNDG GEAR STEERING ON. I BELIEVE THIS SIT MIGHT HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF THE COCKPIT DOOR WOULD HAVE REMAINED CLOSED UNTIL THE SHUTDOWN CHKLIST WAS COMPLETED AND THE CAPT WAS NOT TRYING TO CATCH A FLT HOME.
