A TECHNICIAN ON A LINE CHK DISCOVERED TWO B757-200WITH TOTAL OF THREE CRACKS ON THE ENGINE SPINNER FAIRINGS EMANATING FROM THE MOUNTING BOLT HOLES.

Narrative

A LITTLE OVER A MONTH AGO I WAS ASSIGNED A PERIODIC SERVICE CHK ON A B757 ACFT; NOSE NUMBER; I BELIEVE WAS XYZ; UPON ACCOMPLISHING THE CHK I FOUND THE #2 ENG SPINNER (SPIN WXWX) FAIRING (YXYX) CRACKED AT THE MOUNTING BOLT AREA; THE PLANE WAS OTS FOR ABOUT TWO DAYS AND ENGINEERING REQUESTED THE DEFECTED PART BE TAGGED AND SHIP TO THEM. ON MAR/FRI/00 I WAS ASSIGNED A PERIODIC SERVICE CHK ON A B757 ACFT; NOSE NUMBER XXX; UPON ACCOMPLISHING THE CHK; I FOUND BOTH #1 AND #2 ENGINES SPINNER FAIRINGS (YXYX) CRACKED; ENGINEERING REQUESTED BOTH FAIRINGS TAGGED AND SENT TO THEM. THE ACFT WENT OTS THE SAME DAY AND WENT BACK INTO SERVICE MAR/TUE/00. MY PURPOSE FOR THIS DISCLOSURE IS BASED ON MY CONCERN AS LISTED: 1) THE SAFETY OF THE FLYING PUBLIC; 2) THE CONTINUATION OF IMPROVEMENT OF SAFETY IN GLOBAL CIVIL AVIATION; AND 3) THE WELFARE OF THE COMPANY'S INTEREST IN ALL ASPECT REGARDING AVIATION MAINT AND SAFETY. WHEN XYZ WENT BACK INTO SVC (APR/FRI/00) I BELIEVE ITS TOTAL TIME WAS A LITTLE UNDER 5000 HOURS; THAT WOULD MAKE IT A FAIRLY NEW ACFT (XXX ALSO APPEARED TO BE FAIRLY NEW). I WAS EXPECTING SOME FORM OF ACTION; SUCH AS MAINT SERVICE OF SPINNER FAIRINGS ON ALL RELATED ACFTS WITH THESE PARTICULAR ENGINES/SPINNERS ASSEMBLIES; ETC. I DID NOT SEE OR HEAR OF ANY SUCH ACTIONS. I AM NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES OF THE COMPANY AND THE FAA REGARDING THESE KIND OF EVENTS; HOWEVER; I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE AIRWORTHINESS OF THESE FAIRINGS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH THE RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED WHEN THE CRACKED FAIRINGS WERE REMOVED AND SENT TO ENGINEERING; SOME ACTION OR INFORMATION WAS EXPECTED; BUT NOTHING WAS HEARD FROM ENGINEERING. THE RPTR SAID THE ENGINES WERE ROLLS-ROYCE RB211-535E4.
