Narrative
OPERATING AS ACR X FLT MCO TO DTW ON JUN/XA/00; WE WERE LATE DEPARTING DUE TO LATE INBOUND FLT. CONTACTED MCO GND; TOLD TO TAXI TO RWY 18L VIA TXWY C1; TXWY E; TXWY B. ON TXWY B; PROCEEDING NBOUND; I NOTICED AN ACR Y B767 TAXIING ON TXWY J; WHICH MEETS TXWY B AT A 45 DEG ANGLE. THE ACR Y AIRPLANE APPEARED TO NOT BE SLOWING DOWN; AS IT WAS NOT MOVING FORWARD OR AFT IN MY WINDOW; JUST GETTING BIGGER! I FELT THAT US SLOWING DOWN OR STOPPING WOULD NOT HELP THE SIT; AS OUR POS ON THE TXWY WAS DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE B767; AND WAS ABOUT TO RUN OVER US! SO I GRABBED THE MIKE AND SAID 'ACR Y STOP!' HE DID. CTLR THEN QUESTIONED WHO HAD JUST GIVEN THIS COMMAND. I TOLD GND IT HAD BEEN US AND THAT IT APPEARED ACR Y B767 WAS ABOUT TO HIT US. GND THEN TOLD ACR Y TO FOLLOW US TO RWY. A FEW INDIGNANT REMARKS FOLLOWED ON FREQ -- I AM ASSUMING FROM THE ACR Y COCKPIT. DISCUSSION IN OUR COCKPIT CONFIRMED WE HAD NOT BEEN GIVEN ANY HOLD SHORT INSTRUCTIONS. I REMEMBER SOME CHATTER ON GND FREQ ASSOCIATED WITH AN ACR Y FLT; BUT DO NOT REMEMBER ANY SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS FOR ANY FLT TO HOLD SHORT AND GIVE WAY TO US. CONTRIBUTING FACTOR: ACR X; 'A' MODEL B727'S DO NOT HAVE A TAXI LIGHT! IT IS MY FEELING (AS WERE THE REST OF OUR CREW) THAT THE ACR Y CAPT DID NOT SEE US; AS OUR STANDARD PROC AT NIGHT IS TO TAXI 'DARK' WITH ONLY POS LIGHTS AND ROTATING BEACON ON; NOT A SAFE SIT; DON'T KNOW HOW ACR X HAS GOTTEN AWAY WITH IT FOR SO LONG; ALMOST RESULTED IN 'TWISTED METAL!' REST OF FLT PROCEEDED WITHOUT INCIDENT.
