B727-200 WAS HIT BY A RAMP TRUCK WHILE PARKING AT THE GATE AT CVG.
Narrative
DURING ENTRY INTO THE GATE PARKING AREA AT THE CVG RAMP; A RAMP TRUCK STRUCK THE ACFT R WINGTIP. THE SEQUENCE OF EVENTS WERE AS FOLLOWS: TAXIING TOWARD THE GATE AREA MARSHALLERS GAVE THE THUMPS UP (OK TO ENTER) AS WELL AS A GREEN LIGHT ON THE PARK SYS. APPROX 30 FT FROM THE CORRECT STOPPING POINT FOR THE JETWAY A RAMP PERSON GAVE AN EMER STOP SIGNAL. I STOPPED THE ACFT IMMEDIATELY; SET BRAKES (STILL HAD GREEN PULL FORWARD LIGHT) AND SHORTLY THEREAFTER FELT THE ACFT SHUDDER. I QUERIED THE RAMP TWR AND WAS TOLD A CABIN SVC TRUCK IMPACTED MY WINGTIP. AFTER APPROX 3-5 MINS WE WERE GIVEN APPROVAL TO FINISH MOVING THE LAST 30 FT; PARKED AND DEPLANED THE PAX. I FEEL THAT A BETTER USE OF MARSHALLERS WOULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS INCIDENT. THE MARSHALLERS SHOULD BECOME WING WALKERS ON INITIAL ENTRY TO GATE AREA AND FOLLOW JUST AHEAD OF THE WINGTIPS SO THE LEAD AGENT (CTLS THE LIGHT SYS) HAS A BETTER VIEW OF THEM AT ALL TIMES. ALSO I FEEL RAMP CONGESTION; CRAMPED PARKING SLOTS AND MOVEMENT OF GND VEHICLES PRIOR TO A COMPLETE STOP OF THE ACFT CONTRIBUTED TO THIS INCIDENT.
