Narrative
FIRST TIME DEPARTING RWY 33 AT BTV. I BRIEFLY REVIEWED ARPT LAYOUT IN COMMERCIAL CHARTS AND FELT COMFORTABLE WITH RTE TO RWY 33. AFTER CLRED ACROSS RWY 1 AND CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 33 WE BEGAN THE 'BEFORE TKOF CHKLIST TO THE LINE.' WE WERE ON TXWY C. AS WE APCHED TXWY K; IT APPEARED THAT IN ORDER TO ACCESS FULL LENGTH OF RWY FOR TKOF THAT WE WOULD NEED TO TURN ONTO TXWY K. AS I TURNED ONTO TXWY K; I HAD A 'GUT' FEELING THAT SOMETHING WASN'T RIGHT. I STOPPED THE ACFT AND LOOKED CLOSER AT THE COMMERCIAL CHART ARPT LAYOUT AND FOUND THAT TXWY K WAS CLOSED TO ACFT OVER 68200 LBS. WE WEIGHED 130600 LBS. I WAS UNABLE TO TURN AROUND BACK TO TXWY C SO CONTINUED TO RWY 33 WHERE WE WERE THEN CLRED FOR TKOF. NEITHER MY FO; GND NOR TWR SAID ANYTHING REGARDING THE WRONG TURN. LATER THAT DAY; I FLEW BACK INTO BTV AND AGAIN TAXIED OUT FOR RWY 33. THIS TIME HOWEVER I NOTICED A GND LEVEL TAXI SIGN STATING THE OVERWT TAXI RESTR ON TXWY K. I HAD MISSED THIS SIGN EARLIER BECAUSE I WAS INVOLVED WITH THE TKOF BRIEFING/CHKLIST AT THAT TIME. NEXT TIME I AM UNFAMILIAR WITH AN ARPT; I WILL THOROUGHLY REVIEW ARPT LAYOUT AND COMPLETE BRIEFS/CHKLISTS BEFORE REACHING ANY AREAS OF UNCERTAINTY SO BOTH MY FO AND I ARE MORE VIGILANT.
