B757-200 CREW HAD SMOKE AND FUMES IN THE COCKPIT. CREW RETURNED TO DEP STATION.

Narrative

I WAS IN FIRST CLASS GALLEY WHEN THE SMELL OF SMOKE BECAME PROMINENT. I CHKED THE OVENS AND OUT THE DOORS (WINDOW) MADE THE #1 FLT ATTENDANT AWARE. SHE WENT INTO COCKPIT AND CAME OUT AND TOLD ME TO GET MY EMER PROC FOR LNDG. WE WERE THEN MADE AWARE OF A FIRE AND SMOKE IN COCKPIT. COCKPIT WAS ON OXYGEN. CAPT MADE AN ANNOUNCEMENT THAT WE WERE RETURNING TO LAX. WE WERE AIRBORNE FOR AT LEAST A GOOD 20-30 MINS HEADED TO MIA. WE THEN LOCKED UP GALLEYS AND PROCEEDED TO KEEP PAX CALM. THE #5 FLT ATTENDANT ADMINISTERED OXYGEN TO FIRST CLASS PAX. THE #1 FLT ATTENDANT AND I FELT NAUSEATED. CHKED OUT OUR ASSISTANTS TO BRIEF AND KEPT CONSTANT CONTACT WITH COCKPIT. LNDG WAS ROUGH AND THEN WE WERE NOT ALLOWED TO DEPLANE. PAX WERE IRRITATED AND WE FLT ATTENDANTS TOGETHER CONTINUED TO KEEP ALL PAX CALM. WE WERE BRIEFED BY CAPT AND ALSO BY A SPECIAL FLT SUPVR IF WE WERE TO GET ANOTHER ACFT WOULD WE MAN IT. WE ALL DECLINED. WE WERE THEN BY CREW SCHEDULING GIVEN THE NEXT DAY OFF. WE ALL AS CREW MEMBERS AFTER DEPLANING FILLED OUT NECESSARY FORMS. MOST OF US WERE SHOOK UP.
