Narrative
OVER PFN; ENRTE TO MCO; WE WERE GIVEN A CLRNC TO PROCEED DIRECT TO THE PIE 285 DEG/115 DME FIX AND HOLD N AT FL330. WHEN WE QUESTIONED IF THIS WOULD KEEP US WITHIN 50 NM OF SHORE; ZJX SAID IT WOULD SINCE WE WERE 'HOLDING N.' UNABLE TO VERIFY THIS; WE QUESTIONED THE CTLR AGAIN AND HE SWITCHED OUR HDG FIX TO THE PIE 285 DEG/90 DME. A FEW MINS LATER; WHAT SOUNDED LIKE A DIFFERENT CTLR CAME ON AND GAVE US A R TURN TO 360 DEGS AND A CLRNC TO HOLD AT THE PFN 130 DEG/40 DME FIX. BEFORE WE TURNED AROUND; WE MAY HAVE FLOWN MORE THAN 50 NM FROM SHORE. I BELIEVE THE INITIAL CTLR WAS MISTAKEN WHEN HE STATED THAT WE WOULD REMAIN WITHIN 50 NM OF SHORE AT EITHER OF THE FIXES THAT HE CLRED US TO HOLD AT ONE THE PIE 285 DEG RADIAL. THE FACT THAT WE QUESTIONED THIS; I BELIEVE; RESULTED IN OUR TURN-BACK AND HOLD NEAR PFN. I HAVE DRAWN A LINE (50 NM FROM SHORE) ON MY CHARTS AND INDICATED WHICH RADIALS OFF PFN AND PIE WILL KEEP US WITHIN THAT LINE. I WILL NOT ACCEPT A CLRNC OUTSIDE OF THIS AREA IN THE FUTURE.
