B757-200 FO HAD FATIGUE WHEN HE FLEW AN ALL NIGHT FLT.

Narrative

DANGEROUS OVERWATER OPS. I WAS SCHEDULED TO FLY FROM MAUI TO LOS ANGELES ON THE MORNING OF JUL/SUN/01; FLT XXX. I AM A CHICAGO BASED PLT. THE SCHEDULED TIMES FOR THE DEP AND ARR ARE: DEPART MAUI AT XA00 JUL/MON/01 AND ARRIVE LOS ANGELES AT XF02. THE CAPT ELECTED TO FLY THE OUTBOUND LEG FROM LOS ANGELES ON JUN/SAT/01; SO AS IS NORMAL PRACTICE; IT WAS MY LEG TO FLY ON THE RETURN LEG TO LOS ANGELES. ALTHOUGH I NAPPED DURING THE DAY PRIOR TO THE FLT AND DID EVERYTHING I COULD TO PREPARE MYSELF FOR THE OVERNIGHT FLT. I DID NOT REALIZE HOW TIRED I WOULD BE FOR THE LNDG AT LOS ANGELES. WITH THE PICKUP FROM THE HOTEL AT XC35; AND MY WAKEUP CALL 1 HR PRIOR TO XG35; I WAS UP THE ENTIRE NIGHT. THEN; AFTER BEING AWAKE THE ENTIRE NIGHT; I HAD TO SAFELY PERFORM MY DUTIES FOR OUR ARR INTO LOS ANGELES. THERE WAS NO RELIEF PLT ABOARD AND NO OPPORTUNITY TO REST DURING THE PERIOD I WOULD NORMALLY BE ASLEEP. THIS OP IS DANGEROUS AS SCHEDULED AND I DO NOT BELIEVE I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PERFORM MY DUTIES WITH THE REQUIRED LEVEL OF ALERTNESS AND FOCUS. I RECOMMEND THAT WE EVALUATE OUR OVERNIGHT FLYING IN THE CONTEXT OF OUR SAFETY OBLIGATIONS TO OUR PAX AND CREW. IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE TO OPERATE OUR OCEANIC FLYING ON THIS SCHEDULE.
