B727 FLC ARE QUESTIONED BY ZNY CTLR ABOUT PREVIOUSLY ISSUED CLRNC APPARENTLY DUE TO A DEVELOPING POTENTIAL CONFLICT WITH ANOTHER ACFT.

Narrative

ON A FLT FROM BOS TO DFW; WHILE IN ZNY'S AIRSPACE; WE WERE GIVEN A VECTOR OF 260 DEGS AND DIRECT LRP VOR WHEN ABLE. WE WERE THEN GIVEN A VECTOR OF 270 DEGS FOR TFC. LATER; WE WERE GIVEN A VECTOR OF 260 DEGS; DIRECT LRP WHEN ABLE. WE TOLD CTR WE WERE RECEIVING LRP AND PROCEEDING DIRECT WITH ABOUT A 15 DEG L TURN. SEVERAL MINS LATER; WE WERE GIVEN THE NEXT SECTOR'S FREQ AND TOLD TO EXPECT A HDG TO HVQ FROM THEM. WE REPLIED THAT THE XMISSION WAS GARBLED AND VERIFIED THE FREQ ONLY. WE CHKED IN ON THE NEW FREQ AND CTR LATER GAVE US A HDG OF 280 DEGS FOR TFC. ALTHOUGH IT WASN'T VERY APPARENT TO US; EVIDENTLY; THEY STOPPED ANOTHER FLT'S CLB DUE TO SEPARATION. CTR THEN ASKED US SEVERAL TIMES WHAT OUR PREVIOUS CLRNC HAD BEEN. WE SUBSEQUENTLY WERE GIVEN A PHONE NUMBER TO CALL TO DISCUSS THIS WITH CTR. EVIDENTLY; DURING THE GARBLED XMISSION; THERE WAS A CLRNC GIVEN THAT WE DIDN'T HEAR OR MISUNDERSTOOD. IN RETROSPECT; WE SHOULD HAVE QUESTIONED THE WHOLE XMISSION; NOT JUST THE FREQ; AND CTR SHOULD HAVE MADE SURE WE UNDERSTOOD THE WHOLE XMISSION.
