B727 FO ACCEPTS UNTIMELY BDL CLRNC ON LNDG ROLL; BUT THE ACFT CANNOT MAKE THE TURNOFF AND CONTINUE DOWN THE RWY TO EXIT UNDER AN AMENDED TWR CLRNC.
Narrative
DURING OUR LNDG ROLL; ATC INITIATED A XMISSION THAT INCLUDED MULTIPLE INSTRUCTIONS. THE CTLR ATTEMPTED TO DIRECT A SPECIFIC TURNOFF; A TAXI RTE AND SUBSEQUENT RADIO FREQ USAGE FOR COM ASSOCIATED WITH OUR TAXI TO THE GATE. AS IS FREQUENTLY THE CASE WITH RESPECT TO SUCH ILL-TIMED; COMPOUND XMISSIONS; COCKPIT WORKLOAD PREVENTED US FROM FULLY DIGESTING THE CTLR'S INSTRUCTIONS. BUT WE DID HEAR THE RWY EXIT THAT WAS DESIGNATED. ALTHOUGH THIS TURNOFF CONFLICTED WITH THE EXIT PLAN ESTABLISHED IN OUR APCH BRIEFING; THE FO UNILATERALLY ACCEPTED THE RESTR. WE SUBSEQUENTLY MISSED THE EXIT AND TRANSGRESSED ONTO THE PORTION OF THE RWY JUST RELINQUISHED. THE FO THEN REQUESTED AND ATC PROVIDED AN AMENDED CLRNC TO THE NEXT EXIT. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE ATC RESTR WAS COMPLETELY GRATUITOUS AS THERE WERE NO TXWY CLOSURES OR ANY PRESSING TFC ISSUES ASSOCIATE WITH THIS LATE NIGHT ARR. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 520478: ON ROLLOUT FROM LNDG ON RWY 24; WE WERE TOLD TO EXIT THE RWY AT TXWY S AND ACKNOWLEDGED THE CLRNC. AS WE PASSED TXWY S; WE IMMEDIATELY INFORMED TWR THAT WE WOULD BE EXITING THE RWY AT TXWY V. TWR ACKNOWLEDGED AND WE EXITED THE RWY WITHOUT INCIDENT. ARPT TFC WAS LIGHT AND THE WX WAS GOOD. AIRFIELD TXWY LIGHTING; HOWEVER; DID SEEM TO IMPEDE OUR ACCURATE AND TIMELY IDENT OF THE TXWY AND THUS RESULTED IN OUR BEING ON THE RWY AFTER WE HAD BEEN CLRED OFF.
