AN AIRBUS 320 IN CRUISE AT FL330 DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED DUE TO L ENG LOSS OF OIL QUANTITY. CAUSE UNKNOWN.
Narrative
SHUT DOWN #1 ENG DURING CRUISE DUE TO OIL QUANTITY INDICATION APCHING ZERO. MAINT CTL CONSULTED PRIOR TO SHUTDOWN AND THEY AGREED. ENG PAGE APPEARED ON LOWER ECAM SHOWING 3.0 QUARTS WITH ALL OTHER INDICATIONS NORMAL. MAINT CTL CONTACTED AND DECISION WAS MADE TO SHUT DOWN AS INDICATION ON QUANTITY GAUGE CONTINUED TO DROP. WE WERE DIRECTLY OVER MSO WITH ARPT IN SIGHT AND CLR SKIES. DISPATCH RECOMMENDED AND WE AGREED TO A DIVERT TO MSO. EMER WAS DECLARED; ENG SHUTDOWN CHKLIST RUN; AND UNEVENTFUL VISUAL APCH AND LNDG MADE AT MSO. I TOOK CTL OF THE ACFT FOR APCH AND LNDG AFTER THE ENG WAS SECURED. LNDG WT WAS ABOVE NORMAL MAX LNDG WT (APPROX 151500 LBS); BUT SMOOTH LNDG ACCOMPLISHED WITH NO SIDE LOADS IN CALM WINDS. POSTFLT INSPECTION OF #1 ENG SHOWED OIL ALL OVER COWL ON L SIDE OF ENG. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE CAUSE OF THE OIL LOSS WAS NOT RPTED BY MAINT. THE RPTR SAID AN EXTERNAL CHK OF THE ENG REVEALED OIL ALL OVER THE L SIDE OF THE ENG COWLING. CALLBACK FROM ACN 522643 WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE CAUSE OF THE LOSS OF OIL WAS NOT RPTED TO THE CREW BY MAINT.
