Synopsis

A CANADAIR CL-65 IN CRUISE DECLARED AN EMER DUE TO A FLAP FAIL WARNING MSG. ADVISED MAINT AND ATC AND LANDED UNEVENTFULLY.

Narrative

WHILE IN CRUISE FLT AT FL290; WE RECEIVED A 'FLAPS FAIL' CAUTION MSG. WE PERFORMED THE ABNORMAL PROC PER OUR QRH AND BRIEFED FOR A NO FLAP LNDG. WE ALSO CONSULTED WITH OUR DISPATCHER AND MAINT. AFTER COMPLETING CHECKLIST ITEMS AND FAMILIARIZING OURSELVES WITH THE PROCS WE BRIEFED THE FA THAT WE WERE GOING TO BE DOING A ZERO FLAP LNDG. WE CONTINUED TO OUR DESTINATION OF ATL SINCE THE FLAPS FAILED AT ZERO AND WE WERE NOT REQUIRED TO DIVERT PER THE QRH. ON INITIAL CALL TO ATL APCH; WE INFORMED HIM OF OUR SIT; LET HIM KNOW OF OUR SPEED LIMITATIONS; REQUESTED RWY 9L FOR LNDG; AND REQUESTED THE EMER EQUIP TO BE STANDING BY. WE CARRIED EXTRA SPEED ON FINAL DUE TO GUSTING WIND CONDITIONS IN ATL. THE LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL; HOWEVER; IT WAS FARTHER DOWN THE RWY THAN PLANNED. WE STOPPED THE ACFT USING REVERSE THRUST AND MINIMUM BRAKING TO AVOID OVERHEATING THE BRAKES. WE THEN TAXIED TO THE GATE; CANCELED THE EMER EQUIP; AND INFORMED OUR DISPATCHER WE WERE ON THE GND AND SAFE. BRAKE TEMPERATURES WERE MONITORED AND FOUND TO BE WITHIN LIMITS AND STEADY. WE PERFORMED A VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE LNDG GEAR AND FLAPS AND FOUND NO ABNORMALITIES. WE SHUT DOWN THE AIRPLANE AND CONTACTED MAINT.
