Synopsis

A B757-200 WAS DISPATCHED IN NON COMPLIANCE WITH THE R ENG THRUST REVERSER DEFERRED INOP IMPROPERLY. NOT PER MEL PROCS.

Narrative

HAD AN INBOARD LOG 1 FOR STATUS MESSAGE. 'R REVERSER IS LOW VALVE.' I STARTED TO PULL UP PAPERWORK TO DO THE JOB. I PULLED UP THE 'SVC TIP' FOR EICAS MESSAGE REF 'REVERSER IS LOW VALVE.' I LOOKED AT PAPERWORK AND CALLED MAINT CTL; TALKED WITH ENG DESK. I TOLD HIM WHAT I HAD; ALSO SAID THERE WASN'T AN MEL REF FOR THAT EICAS MESSAGE; SO WE BOTH TALKED ABOUT HOW I COULD MAKE A DEFERRAL SO WE WOULDN'T LOSE THE TRIP. SO WE CAME UP WITH TO INOP THE R ENG REVERSE AND WHAT MEL REF TO USE CAME UP WITH 'THRUST REVERSER INTERLOCK ACTUATOR' INOP. I PULLED UP THE MEL CARD WAS MEL #7834C. SO MR X AND I STARTED TO INOP THE R ENG THRUST REVERSER. THE MEL WAS VERY HARD TO UNDERSTAND. SO I DID IT STEP-BY-STEP; WHEN CAME TO DISCONNECTING THE ROD END. SO I HAD MR X MOVE THE R ENG THRUST REVERSER HANDLE. THE ROD END THAT MOVED I DISCONNECTED IT; THEN DISPATCHED THE TRIP FLT TO LAX. MAINT CALLED AND TOLD ME ACFT CAME BACK AND IT WAS AT YYY; AND FOUND OUT THAT THE WRONG ROD END WAS DISCONNECTED. SO I RECONNECTED THE ROD END BACK TO AIRWORTHY CONDITION; AND FOUND THE R ROD END; SO I DISCONNECTED SAFETY THE ROD END OFF AND CANNON PLUG; MADE WRITE-UPS; HAD ITEMS INSPECTED.
