AN LGT CREW; DEPARTING PHX; NEGLECTED TO ENTER THE REVISED ROUTING IN THE FMS; RESULTING IN A QUERY FROM ATC.
Narrative
UPON RECEIVING OUR PDC IN PHX OUR ORIGINAL DEP DRYHEAT 2 DEP DRYHEAT TRANSITION AND THEN DIRECT CNX; HAD BEEN REVISED TO DESERT 1 DEP DRYHEAT TRANSITION; THEN DIRECT GAG. THE CAPT DID NOT NOTICE THE CHANGE IN THE PDC AND MENTIONED THIS AFTER I ENTERED THE CHANGE ON THE GND IN PHX. AFTER NOTICING THE NEW DEP; THE CAPT DID NOT RECHK THE RTE IN THE FMC AND ASSUMED THAT I TYPED IT IN CORRECTLY. AFTER DEP AND ABOUT 125 MI W OF CNX; I NOTICED A DISCONTINUITY IN OUR RTE AFTER DRYHEAT WITH CNX BEING THE NEXT FIX. (THE CAPT WAS BUSY ON THE OTHER RADIO AT THE TIME.) I LOOKED UP AT MY FLT PLAN BRIEFLY AND SAW THAT CNX WAS THE NEXT FIX AFTER DRYHEAT AND CONNECTED THE 2 TO FIX THE DISCONTINUITY; NOT REALIZING AT THE TIME THAT WE HAD A REVISED PDC ON THE PEDESTAL. ABOUT 25 MI W OF CNX; THE CTLR ASKED IF WE KNEW WHERE WE WERE AND I RESPONDED 25 MI W OF CNX APCHING. THE CTLR RESPONDED THAT A PREVIOUS CTLR MUST NOT HAVE TOLD US TO CHANGE AND CLRED US DIRECT TO MCI; I BELIEVE; AFTER GOING DIRECT. I REALIZED THAT AFTER DRYHEAT WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN GOING DIRECT GAG INSTEAD OF CNX DUE TO THE REVISED PDC. APPARENTLY I DIDN'T SELECT THE GAG TRANSITION IN THE FMC AND THE CAPT DIDN'T CATCH IT BECAUSE HE DIDN'T RECHK THE RTE AFTER THE PDC CHANGE. BETTER SITUATIONAL AWARENESS MIGHT HAVE HELPED. THE PREVIOUS CTLR NEVER QUESTIONED OUR RTE AS WELL; AND THE NEXT CTLR DIDN'T NOTICE FOR QUITE SOME TIME; ALMOST UNTIL WE WERE AT CNX. WE WERE LATE FROM THE GATE BECAUSE OF PHX OPS BEING SLOW; WHICH DIVERTED OUR ATTN. MORE ATTN COULD HAVE BEEN PAID ON THE PART OF ATC AND BOTH CREW MEMBERS.
