Synopsis

A320 CREW DID NOT FOLLOW PROPER LOGBOOK RECORDING PROCS AFTER BEING TOLD THE FLT ATTENDANT FORWARD PANEL WAS INOP.

Narrative

BEFORE PAX BOARDED THE FLT; THE #1 FLT ATTENDANT TOLD ME THE FORWARD FLT ATTENDANT PANEL WAS INOP. THE MECH CAME AND TRIED TO FIX IT. HE COULD NOT; AND TOLD ME HE WOULD DEFER IT AND SEND ME A MAINT RELEASE. I SAID OK; NOT KNOWING THAT IT WAS A NO-GO ITEM. AT PUSHBACK; WE HAD NOT RECEIVED THE MAINT RELEASE AND ASKED THE MECH TO CALL TO FIND OUT WHEN WE WOULD GET IT. HE SAID IT WAS COMING AND SHORTLY THEREAFTER IT DID. WE THEN GOT A SALUTE AND RELEASE FROM GUIDANCE. ON TAXI; THE FO NOTICED THAT THE ATTENDANT PANEL WAS NOT IN THE MAINT RELEASE. I SAID WE WOULD CALL THE MAINT CTLR WHEN AIRBORNE. ONCE AIRBORNE; I CALLED TO SEE IF THEY HAD RECEIVED THE WRITE-UP SINCE THERE WAS NONE IN THE LOGBOOK. HE SAID NO; SO I WROTE IT UP AND SENT IT. IN MORE DETAIL; WHEN I CALLED THE CTLR; HE TOLD ME THE PANEL WAS A NO-GO ITEM. I THEN ASKED HIM WHY WE WERE AIRBORNE IF IT WAS SINCE I GOT NO MESSAGE INDICATING IT WAS AND THE MAINT RELEASE HAD NO INDICATION THAT THIS WAS NO-GO. IN FACT; THE MAINT RELEASE DIDN'T HAVE THE WRITE-UP IN IT AT ALL. I GOT NO REPLY TO THIS QUESTION. I THEN ASKED IF I SHOULD WRITE IT UP AND GOT A 1-WORD REPLY -- 'YES.' SINCE THE MAINT RELEASE HAD NO WRITE-UP FOR THE PANEL; I FIGURED THE MECH HAD FORWARDED IT TO MAINT OBVIOUSLY HE HAD NOT.
