Synopsis

AN A320 CREW AFTER PARKING AND SUBSEQUENT ENG SHUTDOWN AT DTW; EXPERIENCED AN ENG FIRE ON #2 ENG.

Narrative

AFTER NORMAL LNDG AND TAXI IN AND SHUTDOWN; COMPLETED SHUTDOWN CHKLIST AND ADVISED FLT ATTENDANTS (3) THAT THE DOORS WERE OK TO OPEN. FO AND MYSELF THEN NOTICED A VERY LARGE AMOUNT OF SMOKE COMING FROM REAR ACFT R TO FORWARD ACFT L (REAR QUARTERING TAILWIND). FO LOOKED OUT WINDOW AND WAS RADIOED BY COMPANY GND CREW AS TO A #2 ENG FIRE. FO CONFIRMED SMOKE SOURCE AND ADVISED DTW GND TO SEND FIRE TRUCKS AND EMER EQUIP. THERE WAS NO ECAM FIRE MESSAGE AND FUEL FLOW WAS XX=0. THERE WAS A VERY LARGE SMOKE PLUME FROM #2 ENG AND I DECIDED TO PUSH ENG #2 FIRE PUSH BUTTON AND DISCHARGE AGENT 1 AND 2. FO WENT DOWNSTAIRS TO CONFIRM WITH THE FIRE DEPT THAT THE FIRE WAS OUT; WHICH WAS THE CASE. I NOTIFIED FIRST FLT ATTENDANT TO DEPLANE REMAINING 1/2 - 1/3 PAX AS EXPEDITIOUSLY AS POSSIBLE WITH NO EMER EVAC AT THIS TIME. FIRST FLT ATTENDANT NOTIFIED THIRD FLT ATTENDANT OF SIT AND THIRD FLT ATTENDANT REQUESTED CATERING TRUCK TO BACK AWAY FROM ACFT IN CASE OF POSSIBLE EVAC TO WHICH CATERING CREW SAID 'NO WAY' AS THIS IS OUR LAST ACFT FOR EVENING AND WE ARE GOING HOME.' PAX DEPLANED WITHOUT INJURY OR INCIDENT AS WELL AS CREW. CATERING COMPANY SHOULD BE TERMINATED IMMEDIATELY FOR SAFETY VIOLATIONS. FO; CABIN CREW; GND CREW AND DTW SHOULD BE COMMENDED FOR DECISIVE ACTIONS TAKEN AND QUICK RESPONSE TIME.
