Synopsis

CL-65 CREW HAD A TAIL SKIN CONTACT ON LNDG AT DSM.

Narrative

I RECALL LNDG IN DSM ON RWY 31 WITH A HIGH PITCH ATTITUDE AT TOUCHDOWN AND MOMENTARILY GETTING THE STICK SHAKER AFTER THE MAINS WERE ON THE GND. I INITIATED THRUST REVERSING BEFORE THE NOSEWHEEL TOUCHED THE GND. IT CAUSED THE NOSE TO GO HIGHER. WE TAXIED TO THE GATE. WE SAW THE CREW SCHEDULED TO PICK UP OUR PLANE AND LEFT THE APU RUNNING. I RECALL TELLING THE OTHER CAPT THAT THE FIRST FLT OF THE DAY ITEMS WERE COMPLETED AND THAT THERE WERE NO NEW DISCREPANCIES WITH THE ACFT. I DO NOT RECALL THE FO SAYING ANYTHING TO ME THAT WOULD INDICATE AN ABNORMALITY WITH THE POSTFLT. I DID NOT KNOW THAT THERE WAS SKIN DAMAGE UNTIL I GOT A CALL FROM THE CHIEF PLT AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS AN ONGOING INVESTIGATION. I LOOKED UP THE FLT STANDARDS MANUAL AND SAW THAT MY ACTIONS OF HAVING THE THRUST REVERSERS OUT BEFORE THE NOSEWHEEL IS ON THE GND IS NOT PROPER PROC. WE WERE LNDG LIGHT WITH AN AFT CTR OF GRAVITY. I HAVE SEEN OTHER PLTS ON LINE LNDG AND HAVING THE THRUST REVERSERS DEPLOYED BEFORE NOSEWHEEL TOUCHDOWN.
