A320 CREW ON A SIMULTANEOUS VISUAL APCH INTO SFO FELT TFC ON THE PARALLEL RWY WAS TOO CLOSE.

Narrative

FLT LNDG FMS VISUAL RWY 28R AT SFO. TIME WAS XA55Z AND AT 1200-1000 FT AGL I MADE R S-TURNS TO GIVE MORE LATERAL DISTANCE TO A CRJ ON A VISUAL APCH TO SFO RWY 28L. WHILE STILL ON BAY APCH FREQ; OUTSIDE 'THE BRIDGE;' ATC GAVE US 'TFC;' AND TOLD US BOUT THE RJ ON OUR L REAR. ATC EARLIER HAD GIVEN US A SPD OF 170 KTS; THEN JUST BEFORE THE BRIDGE; GAVE US '160 KTS RJ WILL FOLLOW YOU; CONTACT TWR.' SOON THEREAFTER; WE GOT A TCASII TA FOR THE RJ. I LOOKED BACK AND SAW HE WAS MUCH FASTER THAN US. TO AVOID AN RA; I SWITCHED THE XPONDER TO 'TA' AND MADE A TURN TO THE R TO AVOID BEING TOO CLOSE. THE RJ FLEW RIGHT ON AND PASSED US ON OUR L. WE NOTIFIED TWR WE WERE S-TURNING BECAUSE THEY WERE PASSING US AND IT WAS TOO CLOSE. I DETERMINED IT WAS SAFE TO CONTINUE AND DID SO; MAKING AN UNEVENTFUL LNDG. AFTER LNDG; I QUERIED SFO TWR ABOUT THE SIT AND THEY DID NOT SEEM TO BE INTERESTED OR CONCERNED. I AM NOT SURE OF THE DISTANCE BTWN MY ACFT AND THE RJ AT THAT TIME BUT IN MY MIND IT WAS TOO CLOSE; AND I BELIEVE IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A TCASII RA OR A GAR HAD I NOT TAKEN ACTION. I BELIEVE IT WAS POOR JUDGEMENT AND LACK OF EXPERIENCE ON THE RJ'S PART AND LACK OF ACTION AND APATHY ON ATC'S PART. POSSIBLY DUE TO THE NICE CLR WX.
