DURING A L ENG TEST RUN ON A B757-200 TECHNICIANS EXPERIENCED RAPID UNCOMMANDED ACCELERATION. FOUND LOWER CTL BOX IMPROPERLY INSTALLED AND MISALIGNED.
Narrative
L ENG ACFT X DISCREPANCY TEXT; L AND R THRUST LEVERS STIFF AND DIFFICULT TO MOVE FORWARD THRUST. PER REQUEST OF MY SUPVR; I REMOVED THE LOWER TORQUE BOX PER MAINT MANUAL 76-11-10-004-001 PARAGRAPH E IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THE CONDITION OF THE THROTTLE CABLE LINKAGE AND FFG (FUEL FLOW GOVERNOR) LEVER ASSEMBLY. REINSTALLED TORQUE BOX PER MAINT MANUAL 76-11-10-404-015. FOUND ROTARY LEVER WITHIN LIMITS PER AMM 73-21-01. AT THAT POINT; NOTED THROTTLE LEVER TRAVEL FELT STIFF EVEN WHEN DISCONNECTED. UPDATED TEXT; PROVIDED TURNOVER TO MY SUPVR AND AN ASSIGNED MECH; STATING THE LEVERS FELT STIFF EVEN WHEN DISCONNECTED. THE MECH ASKED DID I RECONNECT THE BOX. I SAID 'YES; BUT THE LEVERS STILL BIND WHEN PUSHED AT THE SAME TIME.' LATER THAT EVENING WHILE DRIVING HOME; I CALLED SUPVR XD20 AM; AND ASKED IF THEY HAD ORDERED A CABLE; AND A TELEFLEX ASSEMBLY. HE SAID; 'DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT BECAUSE WHATEVER YOU DID FIXED IT.' I SAID; 'WHAT?' I SAID 'ALL I DID WAS TAKE THE BOX OFF AND PUT IT BACK ON.' SUPVR SAID; 'WELL THEY'RE GOOD WITH IT; (TECHNICIANS) AND THEY ARE GOING TO SIGN IT OFF.' I SAID 'PER WHAT? ME TAKING IT OFF AND PUTTING IT BACK ON.' SUPVR SAID 'TECHNICIANS ARE GOING TO CLEAN SOME STUFF UP AND I TOLD THEM TO CHK EVERYTHING OUT.' IT WAS LATER DISCOVERED; UPON ENG START UP (AT THE HANGAR); AN UNCOMMANDED RAPID ACCELERATION OCCURRED. SUBSEQUENT TROUBLESHOOTING REVEALED THAT THE LOWER CTL BOX WAS MISALIGNED AND IMPROPERLY INSTALLED ON THE L ENG.
