AFTER AN ATC RERTE; A B757-200 FLT RUNS INTO A MOUNTAIN WAVE OVER THE ROCKIES; SW OF HBU; CO.
Narrative
LOCATION ABOUT 15 MINS E TBC; APCHING HBU SE OF PUB. WE WERE ON FLT PLAN (NRP) WHEN ATC GAVE US A RERTE. WE COPIED THE RTE AND ADVISED ATC UNABLE UNTIL I SPOKE WITH MY DISPATCHER. I CONTACTED DISPATCH AND QUERIED HER ON RIDES; NOTAMS; CAT RPTS AND ALERTS IN THE RERTE AREA. AT THE SAME TIME; I REQUESTED A PERFORMANCE EVALUATION TO MEET METHOD 1 RESTRS PER OUR FLT PLAN. THE DISPATCHER ADVISED US THE RTE WAS APPROVED AND PERFORMANCE WAS MET. WE ACCEPTED ATC'S RERTE. APPROX 5-7 MINS AFTER RERTE; WE RECEIVED MODERATE TURB AND A SPLIT SECOND LATER; WE RECEIVED SEVERE MOUNTAIN WAVE AND EXCEEDED VMO BY 15 KTS OR .87 MACH. MACH LIMITS ARE VMO/.86 MACH AT ALT. WE DSNDED FROM FL370 TO FL330 AND RECEIVED A SMOOTH RIDE WITH NO MOUNTAIN WAVE THEREAFTER. MY FO WAS THE PF. HE DID AN EXCELLENT JOB HANDLING THE PROB AND GETTING THE ACFT SPD UNDER CTL. WE MAINTAINED TURB PENETRATION SPD UNTIL WELL E OF THE ASSOCIATED AREA. WE ASSESSED THE SIT; ADVISED ATC AND DISPATCH AND MAINT COORD OF OUR PROB; AND DECIDED TO CONTINUE TO OUR DEST (ORD). THERE WERE NO VIBRATION AND OR CTL PROBS. ALL SYS OPERATED NORMALLY. THE FLT CONTINUED WITHOUT FURTHER EVENT TO ORD. UPON ARR AT ORD; WE WERE MET BY ORD MECHS AND GUIDELINES FOR AIRFRAME OVERSPD. I REVIEWED THE PROB WITH THE MECH AND THE EXACT INDICATIONS. WE ENTERED THE SIT IN THE LOGBOOK AND TURNED THE ACFT OVER TO COMPANY MAINT.
