EMB145 CREW AND A NAVY ACFT HAD LESS THAN LEGAL SEPARATION IN CRP CLASS E.
Narrative
NEAR MISS. WE WERE DSNDING INTO CRP. AS USUAL; WE HAD BEEN KEPT HIGH; AND HAD TO MAKE A RAPID DSCNT. WHEN SWITCHED TO APCH; WE WERE CLRED DOWN TO 2000 FT; AND THEN ASKED TO EXPEDITE OUR DSCNT. AS WE PASSED 8500 FT; THE CTLR TOLD US TO LEVEL AT 9000 FT. WE TOLD HIM WE WERE ALREADY THROUGH 9000 FT; AND THEN HE CALLED A NAVY FLT; AND ASKED HIM IF HE COULD SEE US. WE WERE IN BTWN LAYERS WITH BUILD-UP AND SCATTERED CLOUDS BTWN. HE SAID HE COULD SEE US; AND THE CTLR TOLD HIM TO MAINTAIN VISUAL SEPARATION. WE SAW HIM ON TCASII; AND HIS ALT WAS THE SAME AS OURS SINCE WE HAD STARTED TO LEVEL OFF. WE LOOKED OUT AND ACQUIRED THE NAVY ACFT; AND HE WAS ALREADY INITIATING A HARD R TURN; APPROX 60 DEG BANK OR MORE. WE BEGAN A R TURN AWAY; AND RECEIVED A TCASII RA TO DSND. WE CONTINUED TO DSND UNTIL CLR OF CONFLICT; AND THEN CALLED THE CTLR AND ASKED HIM WHAT ALT HE WANTED US TO GO TO. HE TOLD US TO CONTINUE DOWN TO 2000 FT. THE OTHER ACFT CAME WITHIN 1/4 MI OR LESS; AND WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY CLOSE HAD THE NAVY PLT NOT INITIATED AN AGGRESSIVE MANEUVER. THIS IS A PROB THAT COULD RECUR OFTEN. CTR KEEPS US HIGH TO CLR HOUSTON TFC AND THEN SLAM-DUNKS US; MAKING THE APCH MORE DIFFICULT THAN NECESSARY.
