A B757-200 HAD A DEFERRED R ENG BLOCKER DOOR AND DAMAGED FAIRING WITH ENGINEERING AUTH. BLOCKER DOOR WAS REPLACED AND REVERSER REACTIVATED. MAINT CTL QUESTIONED REVERSER REACTIVATION.
Narrative
ACFT X ARRIVED ZZZ WITH THE #2 THRUST REVERSER DEACTIVATED DUE TO A REMOVED BLOCKER DOOR AND A DAMAGED SECTION OF CLOSEOUT FAIRING. THE REMOVED BLOCKER DOOR WAS ON MAINT CARRYOVER/PLACARD AND THE DAMAGED FAIRING WAS A TIME CTL ITEM ON THE ACFT OMI. AN ENGINEERING AUTH WAS WRITTEN WITH A TEMPORARY REPAIR TO INSPECT THE DAMAGED FAIRING EACH DAY. THE FAIRING WAS WITHIN ACCEPTABLE LIMITS PER THE ACFT MANUAL. THE PERMANENT REPAIR WAS TO REPLACE THE DAMAGED FAIRING DURING OR BEFORE THE DAMAGED BLOCKER DOOR WAS REPLACED. AFTER EVALUATING REPAIR IT WAS DISCOVERED BY MYSELF THAT THE REPAIR COULD NOT BE MADE AT ZZZ DUE TO THE FASTENERS REQUIRED ARE NOT A STOCK ITEM AT ZZZ. I CONTACTED MAINT COORD CTR AND AFTER EXPLAINING SIT WAS TOLD TO SUPPLEMENT THE TIME CTL ITEM IN THE OPEN MAINT ITEMS WITH THE REQUIRED FASTENERS PART NUMBERS AND INSTALL THE REPAIRED BLOCKER DOOR AND REACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER. THE REPAIRED BLOCKER DOOR WAS REPLACED AND TESTED PER THE MAINT MANUAL SATISFACTORILY; AND THE THRUST REVERSER WAS REACTIVATED. THE MAINT CARRYOVER WAS CLRED; AND THE TIME CTL ITEM FOR THE DAMAGED FAIRING WAS SUPPLEMENTED. AFTER FLT DEP ZZZ1 QUESTIONED WHY THE THRUST REVERSER HAD BEEN REACTIVATED. NO PLACE IN THE ENGINEERING ORDER DID IT SAY TO DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER. THE THRUST REVERSER HAD BEEN DEACTIVATED WHEN THE DAMAGED BLOCKER DOOR HAD BEEN REMOVED PER THE MEL. AS I HAD REPLACED THE BLOCKER DOOR AND TESTED THE THRUST REVERSER SUCCESSFULLY PER THE MAINT MANUAL; I FELT NO NEED TO DEACTIVATE IT AGAIN. THIS PROB CAN BE PREVENTED IN THE FUTURE BY NOT CONNECTING MULTIPLE DISCREPANCIES TOGETHER. EXAMPLES ARE MAINT CARRYOVER AND TIME CTL ITEM; OR MULTIPLE MAINT CARRYOVER. EACH DISCREPANCY NEEDS TO BE HANDLED INDEPENDENTLY.
