A CANADAIR CL600 ON CLBOUT AT 3000 FT RETURNED TO LAND DUE TO STALL FAIL EICAS MESSAGE AND LOUD AIR RUSHING NOISE FROM ACFT R SIDE.

Narrative

CREW AWOKE AT XA45 AM; LEFT HOTEL IN ZZZ AT XB45 AM FOR AN XC40 FLT TO ATL. I (FO) PERFORMED A SECURITY CHK (STANDARD PROC FOR AN ACFT ON FIRST FLT OF OPERATIONAL DAY) WHICH INVOLVED OPENING THE OXYGEN SVC DOOR JUST FORWARD OF THE R PITOT TUBE. DURING THE TKOF; THE EICAS INDICATED A STALL FAIL CAUTION MESSAGE. (THIS IS CLASSIFIED AS A NUISANCE MESSAGE; AND NORMAL PROC IS TO CONTINUE.) AS AIRSPD INCREASED; CREW HEARD A LOUD RUSHING SOUND FROM THE R SIDE OF THE ACFT. THE CREW DECIDED TO RETURN FOR LNDG AND HAVE THE DOOR CHKED. THE CAPT ELECTED TO HAND-FLY THE ACFT. WHILE WE WERE COMPLETING REQUIRED CHKLISTS; I OBSERVED AN ALTDEV APPROX 600 FT ABOVE CLRED ALT; WHICH WAS IMMEDIATELY CORRECTED. THE CREW BRIEFED LNDG ABOVE THE 47000 LB MAX LNDG WT; AND RETURNED TO ZZZ. AFTER LNDG; ENTRIES WERE MADE IN THE ACFT MAINT LOG FOR OVERWT LNDG AND DOOR OPEN INFLT. INSPECTIONS FOUND NO DAMAGE OR DISCREPANCIES. THE THUMB-LATCHES ON THIS DOOR CAN APPEAR CLOSED WHEN THEY ARE NOT LATCHED. BETTER SECURITY COULD PREVENT OCCURRENCE.
