FLT CREW OF B757-200; UNFAMILIAR WITH THE AREA; DEPART EGE VIA THE COTTONWOOD SID. FLT CREW FAILS TO DETERMINE THAT THE DEFAULT FORM OF THIS DEP IN THEIR FMC DATABASE IS THE ENG FAIL PROC FROM RWY 25. THE RESULT IS UNAUTHORIZED PENETRATION OF AIRSPACE.

Narrative

AFTER TKOF FROM EGE; WE FOLLOWED THE LNAV TRACK ON THE COTDN2 RWY 25 DEP. DEN ARTCC ADVISED WE VIOLATED ASPEN AIRSPACE; AND TO CALL CTR (MR. X). IT APPEARED WE FOLLOWED THE ENG OUT LNAV TRACK THAT WAS IN THE FMC. I FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD NOT BE IN THE FMC. WHILE WE MISSED THE TURN TO JESIE AT 10000 FT; THIS PROC 'BEGS' FOR THIS TO HAPPEN; ESPECIALLY WHEN I FLY INTO AND OUT OF EGE ONLY ONCE OR TWICE A YEAR. MR X TOLD ME THAT THIS OCCURS SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR TO ALL CARRIERS. THE SID AND/OR FMC AND/OR PROC SHOULD BE CHANGED TO PRECLUDE THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN. SUPPLEMENTARY INFO FROM ACN 662106: DEPARTING THE EGE ARPT ON THE COTTONWOOD DEP OFF OF RWY 25; WE WERE NOTIFIED BY ATC THAT WE HAD 'VIOLATED ASPEN AIRSPACE.' PER THE PROCEDURAL NOTES ON THE SID; LNAV WAS ARMED PRIOR TO POINT F222C. WE DID NOT RECOGNIZE AT THE TIME THAT THE FMC AND LNAV WERE INDICATING/DIRECTING THE 'ENG OUT' FLT PATH UNTIL WE HAD TURNED S AND ATC MADE THE RADIO CALL. CAPT PHONED ATC UPON ARR AT DESTINATION (PER INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE INCIDENT DEN CTLR). THE CONFUSION ON THE DEP RESULTED FROM THE SELECTED DEP PROC IN THE FMC INDICATING THE ENG OUT PATH AND LNAV FLYING THE ENG OUT PROFILE. WE BRIEFED THE CORRECT PROC AT THE GATE PRIOR TO PUSHBACK; BUT WHEN WE SELECTED THE LNAV PER THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE SID; WE SIMPLY FLEW WHAT THE INSTRUMENTS WERE TELLING US TO FLY.
