B757 FLT CREW EXPERIENCED A TRACK DEV BECAUSE OF UNFAMILIARITY AND SIMILAR SOUNDING WAYPOINTS ON THE RTE.
Narrative
WE WERE ON GND DELAY DUE TO SEVERE WX OVER NORTH FLORIDA AND TOLD TO CONTACT CLRNC FOR REVISED ROUTING. THE CAPT AND I BOTH COPIED DOWN THE NEW ROUTING AS JFK; LINND; AZEZU; R511; ETC. THE CAPT AND I WERE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THIS ROUTING. LOOKING AT THE MAP; WE SAW GLINN AND CONVINCED OURSELVES THAT'S WHAT WE HEARD AND PROGRAMMED IT INTO THE FMS: GLINN; AZEZU; R511; ETC. TKOF AND CLB WERE ALL ON VECTORS. THE ATC CTLR CLRED US DIRECT TO LINND. WE BOTH THOUGHT WE HEARD GLINN. CAPT PROCEEDED DIRECT GLINN. CTR ASKED US WHAT OUR HDG WAS; AND THEN TOLD US TO FLY HDG 120 DEGS. THE PROB WAS DISCOVERED AFTER WE FLEW ON HDG 120 DEGS FOR ABOUT 15 MINS UNTIL WE WERE CLOSE TO LINND AND THEN GIVEN DIRECT AZEZU. NO CONFLICT WITH OTHER TFC WAS NOTED. NO TCAS ADVISORIES. ATC NEVER SAID ANYTHING OR COMPLAINED OTHER THAN GIVING US THE 120 DEG HDG. NOTE: GLINN IS ON HIGH CHART ON JFK 150 DEG RADIAL AT APPROX 53 MI. LINND IS ON HIGH CHART ON JFK 139 DEG RADIAL AT APPROX 120 MI. RECOMMEND GLINN BE RENAMED BECAUSE OF CLOSENESS TO LINND WHEN HEARD OVER THE RADIO AND WITH ACCENTS. IF WE FLEW THIS RTE ALL THE TIME IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EASIER; BUT THESE RTES AREA ONLY FLOWN ON OCCASION.
