A B757-200 FO'S SEAT LUMBAR SUPPORT WAS DEFERRED PER THE MEL. TECHNICIAN ENTERED WRONG PART NUMBER FOR SEAT. SEAT WAS REPLACED AT ANOTHER STATION WITH WRONG SEAT USING DEFERRED ITEM PART NUMBER.

Narrative

ON AUG/FRI/05; I ISSUED AN MEL PLACARD FOR ACFT X; FO SEAT LUMBAR SUPPORT PER MEL 25-23C. I ISSUED A MAINT ACTION ALONG WITH A PART NUMBER THAT WAS INCORRECT. THE CORRECT PART NUMBER FOR THE FO SEAT ASSEMBLY WAS XXX-XXXX. I ENTERED XXX-XXXY INTO THE PARTS LINE. THE XXX-XXXY IS THE CAPT'S SEAT AND THE XXX-XXXX IS THE FO SEAT ASSEMBLY. I LOOKED AT THE FO PART NUMBER AND TYPED IN THE CAPT'S SEAT PART NUMBER BY MISTAKE. REQUESTED TO WORK ANY OTHER SHIFT AS I CANNOT SLEEP WHILE WORKING THIS SHIFT. DOCTOR'S VISITS AND PRESCRIPTION DRUGS ARE NO HELP. OTHER THAN THAT; JUST TRY TO BE MORE DILIGENT AND DOUBLECHK EVERYTHING. INCORRECT PART NUMBER ENTERED INTO MAINT RPT. WITH NO SLEEP FOR 2 OR 3 DAYS; MISTAKES ARE EASY TO MAKE; HARD TO CATCH. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 670327: I WAS ASSIGNED TO CLEAR AN MEL BY REPLACING A FO'S SEAT ASSY; DUE TO INOP LUMBAR ADJUSTMENT. MY LEAD HANDED ME THE PRINTOUT; AND TOLD ME HE ORDERED THE SEAT AND HAD IT DELIVERED TO THE ACFT. I INSTALLED THE NEW SEAT PER THE MM; AND CLEARED THE MEL. AFTER 5 LEGS (NO SVC INTERRUPTIONS); A TECH NOTICED THE SEAT WAS INCORRECT; THAT IT WAS A CAPT'S SEAT. HE MADE A DISCREPANCY IN THE LOG AND TOOK ACTION BY INSTALLING THE PROPER SEAT. DUE TO AN INCORRECT PART NUMBER IN THE WORK ORDER; AND MY FAILURE TO VERIFY THE PART NUMBER; I MISTAKENLY INSTALLED THE WRONG SEAT ASSY. SAFETY OF THE CREW MEMBER WAS NOT COMPROMISED SINCE THE SEAT WAS FULLY FUNCTIONAL.
