B757-200 EXPERIENCES COCKPIT SMOKE AND HIGH ENG OIL TEMP ON DEP. DECLARE EMER AND RETURN TO DEP ARPT.

Narrative

AFTER LEVELING OFF AT 10000 FT; THE R ENG OIL TEMP EXCEEDED MAX AND THE INDICATION TURNED RED (184 DEGS) ON THE EICAS. AS WE DISCUSSED CORRECTIVE PROCS FOR THAT PROB; THE COCKPIT FILLED WITH AN OILY SMELLING SMOKY HAZE. ALL COCKPIT CREW MEMBERS DONNED OXYGEN MASKS AND ATTEMPTED TO ESTABLISH COMS. THE #1 FLT ATTENDANT KEPT RINGING THE COCKPIT CALL CHIME BUT I COULDN'T RESPOND TO HER IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE I WAS COMMUNICATING WITH ATC. I HAD MY INTERPHONE SWITCH ON SO I COULD HEAR THE SITUATION IN THE CABIN; AND I FINALLY TOLD THEM I UNDERSTOOD THE SITUATION BUT WAS TOO BUSY TO TALK. I DECLARED AN EMER AND REQUESTED VECTORS FOR LNDG AT ZZZ. DURING DSCNT; THE 250 KT SPD RESTR BELOW 10000 FT WAS EXCEEDED TO EXPEDITE OUR ARR BACK TO ZZZ. AS WE REDUCED THRUST TO BEGIN DSCNT TO THE ARPT; THE OIL TEMP INDICATION RETURNED TO WITHIN THE NORMAL RANGE AND THE SMOKE CLRED. I SECURED FROM THE USE OF OXYGEN AND ELECTED NOT TO ACCOMPLISH CORRECTIVE PROCS AS THE PROB APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED AND OUR PROX TO THE ARPT REQUIRED THAT WE PRIORITIZE FOR MAKING A SAFE APCH AND LNDG. A NORMAL APCH AND LNDG WERE ACCOMPLISHED. AFTER LNDG; WE WERE VISUALLY INSPECTED BY CFR. UPON RECEIVING NOTIFICATION FROM CFR THAT THERE WAS NO FIRE; SMOKE; OR FLUIDS LEAKING FROM THE ACFT; WE TAXIED TO THE GATE AND MADE LOGBOOK ENTRIES AND REQUIRED NOTIFICATIONS.
