Synopsis

AN UNQUALIFIED TECHNICIAN INADVERTENTLY CLRED AND CERTIFIED AIRBUS 320 ACFT FOR AUTOLAND CAT IIIB OPS. TECHNICIAN DID NOT ACCOMPLISH CERTIFICATION TRAINING.

Narrative

EARLY IN 2005; I ATTENDED THE A320 CLASS FOR THE A320 FAMILY OF ACFT; RECEIVED SIMULATOR TRAINING AND OJT TRAINING. THAT ALLOWED ME TO WORK ON THE ACFT FOR ACR X. IN TRAINING; THEY SAID THAT THE AVIONICS AFS AND LAND VERIFY TEST COULD BE DONE BY ANYONE. AT THE TIME; I WAS A MECH. ON SEP/MON/05 LINE AWARDED AN A1 AVIONICS POS. SINCE THERE WAS NO AVIONICS INITIAL CLASS; I ASSUMED THAT NOW IN THE AVIONICS DEPT I WAS CAT QUALIFIED; BUT AM NOT. I NEEDED TO GO TO A PAPERWORK CLASS TO RECEIVE CERTIFICATION. I HAVE BEEN PREVIOUSLY CERTIFIED ON SEVERAL ACFT TYPES THAT HAD AVIONICS INITIAL CLASSES. IN CONVERSATION ABOUT CAT SIGNOFFS; MAINT/AUX CERTIFICATION CAME UP AND RECURRENT TRAINING. DURING THIS TIME I FOUND OUT ABOUT THE PAPERWORK CLASS REQUIRED FOR CERTIFICATION. POOR COM ABOUT POLICY LED TO THIS ERROR. I WILL OBVIOUSLY SEEK THE PAPERWORK CLASS; IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TRAINING OR ABILITY TO DO THE WORK; SO THAT I WILL BE IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE RULES. THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE; BUT COMPLIANCE WITH THE PROCS. I REGRET THE ERROR AND HAVE EVERY DESIRE TO ABIDE BY THE RULES.
