A B757-200 WAS DISPATCHED WITH THE AUTO SPD BRAKES DEFERRED AS INOP PER THE MEL. THE ACTUAL LOG RPT WAS THE AUTOBRAKE SELECTOR KNOB LOOSE.

Narrative

ON THE EVENING OF JAN/SUN/06; I WAS ASSIGNED TO ACFT X. THE ITEM WHICH WAS NOT RECORDED IN THE LOGBOOK WAS AN 'AUTOBRAKE SELECTOR KNOB' LOOSE. THE PROB TURNED OUT TO BE A MISSING SET SCREW. WE WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE EITHER PART NUMBERS FOR A SET SCREW OR A KNOB. I CONTACTED B757 MAINT CTL FOR GUIDANCE; AND DUE TO MISCOM OR A BAD PHONE CONNECTION; I WAS GIVEN THE DEFERRAL REF FOR THE 'AUTO SPD BRAKES' MEL 27-12A. AT THIS POINT; I DID NOT REALIZE THE MISTAKE; THINKING IT WAS PART OF AN AUTOFLT FUNCTION. I THEN WROTE THE MAINT ENTRY IN THE LOGBOOK FROM THE DEFERRAL REF; STATING THE DISCREPANCY. IT WAS INCORRECTLY RECORDED AS AN AUTO SPD BRAKE KNOB. AT THIS POINT; I TURNED IN THE LOGBOOK GREEN SHEET AND WENT HOME. APPROX 1 HR AFTER THE ACFT DEPARTED; I CALLED COMPANY MAINT FROM HOME TO ALERT THE NEXT STATION OF THE MISTAKE. THE SET SCREW WAS REPLACED AND THE MEL REMOVED. THE NEXT STATION; WHICH WAS ZZZ1; WAS CONTACTED FOR CORRECTION. INCORRECT RECORDING OF DISCREPANCY IN LOGBOOK; MISCOM WITH TECHNICAL SVC FOR DEFERRAL.
