AN A320 CABIN ATTENDANT RPTS INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYING A DOOR ESCAPE SLIDE. DOOR OP AND SLIDE OP WAS ABNORMAL.

Narrative

DESCRIPTION OF SLIDE DEPLOYMENT; AIRBUS A320X ACFT #Y JAN/WED/06 STATION; ZZZ; FLT #ABCD ABOUT XA10. AT ATTEMPTING TO ARM THE DOOR; THE (DOOR ARMING) LEVER DID NOT DEPRESS FULLY. I PARTIALLY OPENED (LIFTED THE DOOR HANDLE) TO SEE THE MECHANISM AT THE FORWARD PART OF THE DOOR; AS THERE WAS MORE DEBRIS IN THE CORNER TO OBSTRUCT MY VIEW. I COULD NOT SEE; AT WHICH TIME I CALLED THE PURSER; ASKING IF HE WOULD GET A PLT FOR ASSISTANCE. MY FLYING PARTNER WAS WATCHING AND SUGGESTED RECYCLING THE DOOR HANDLE AGAIN. I LOWERED THE DOOR HANDLE AGAIN AND NOTICED MOVEMENT AT THE FORWARD FLOOR CORNER (WHERE THE VIEW PORT SHOULD BE). THE DOOR WAS STILL UNARMED. THE DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE FULLY; NOR WOULD IT ARM AS BEFORE; AND I SLOWLY BEGAN TO FEEL THE PRESSURE OF FORCE AGAINST ME WHILE ON THE PHONE AND STILL HOLDING ONTO THE DOOR HANDLE. I REALIZED THEN THAT THE SLIDE MIGHT BE ENGAGED AS I WAS SUPPOSING THAT THE MANUAL INFLATION HANDLE MIGHT BE CAUGHT IN THE GIRT BAR BRACKET AT THE BASE OF THE DOOR. I HAD TO LET GO; AND BY THIS TIME; A PLT HAD ARRIVED BUT TOO LATE TO SEE THAT THE SLIDE HAD ALREADY DEPLOYED; TOO LATE TO ASSIST. IT NOW; AFTER DEPLOYMENT THAT I NOTICED THE MANUAL INFLATION HANDLE MORE TO THE CTR OF THE DOOR BRACKET AREA; BUT AT THE CORNER WAS A TANGLE OF CANVAS-TYPE CORD JUST TO THE FORWARD R OF THE DOOR; WHERE THE GIRT BAR WAS ATTACHED TO THE BRACKET.
