Narrative
ON THE WALKAROUND (NIGHT) I WAS LOOKING AT THE REAR OF THE ENG TO CHK THE BLOCKER DOOR POS WHEN I DETECTED SOMETHING FORWARD IN THE FAN BLADE SECTION. I CALLED MAINT FROM THE JETWAY AND ASKED A MECH TO PLEASE REMOVE THE OBJECT FROM THE ENG FAN BLADES. I EXPLAINED THAT IT WASN'T OBVIOUS BUT IF THE MECH DIDN'T SEE IT TO PLEASE ASK THE CREW TO SHOW IT TO THEM. APCHING PUSHBACK TIME; I HADN'T HEARD FROM THAT MECH; ANOTHER ONE WAS ON BOARD WORKING A PA PROB SO WE CALLED MAINT. WHEN I QUERIED HIM ABOUT THE FOD IN THE #2 ENG; HE REPLIED TERSELY THAT IT WAS TAKEN CARE OF. HE ALSO INFORMED ME THE MECH HAD NO RESPONSIBILITY TO THE CREW TO TALK TO US. FAST FORWARD FEB/WED AND I PICKED UP THE SAME ACFT. THE LOG SHOWED THE FOLLOWING: 'FOD FOUND IN #2 ENG: UPON VISUAL INSPECTION OF #2 ENG FOUND NO FOD TO REMOVE. ENG APPEARANCE IS NORMAL.' I STARTED MY #2 ENG THINKING IT WAS FINE. NOW I REALIZE THAT I STARTED IT WITH A FOREIGN OBJECT IN THE SECOND STAGE FAN BLADES. SHOULDN'T THE MECH QUERY THE CREW IF WE REPORT SOMETHING AS SERIOUS AS FOD AND THEY DON'T SEE IT? IF I REPORT A PANEL LOOSE OR MISSING AND THEY CAN'T LOCATE IT; ARE THEY JUST GOING TO SAY 'STUPID PLTS' AND SIGN OFF 'NO PANEL MISSING?' WE SHOULD OPERATE LIKE A TEAM THAT IS SAFETY CONSCIOUS. LET'S NOT HAVE THIS LEAD TO AN ENG FAILURE ON TKOF.
