A CRJ700 WAS DISPATCHED WITH THE INCORRECT NOSE GEAR STEERING MANIFOLD. PART ORDERED BY PREVIOUS SHIFT.

Narrative

ON FEB/FRI/06 INBOUND FLT #ABCD; PLT RPTED 'ARMING NOSEWHEEL STEERING RESULTED IN A LOUD HUMMING NOISE AND VIBRATION FROM THE NOSEWHEEL GEAR COMPARTMENT.' CREW TROUBLESHOT AND CHANGED PRESSURE SWITCH WITH NO HELP. THIS CREW ISOLATED THE DISCREPANCY TO THE STEERING MANIFOLD. PARTS WERE ORDERED AND DELIVERY TIME ESTIMATED AT XA20. ACFT WAS TURNED OVER TO NEXT CREW AT XA00 AND ACFT WAS TAXIED TO ACR Y HANGAR FOR REPAIRS. AROUND XA30; PART ARRIVED ZZZ AND ROUTED TO ACFT. STEERING MANIFOLD PART #X WAS ISSUED TO ACFT THROUGH COMPUTER SYS AND INSTALLED ON ACFT WITH EXISTING BRACKET PART #Y. BY ACFT SERIAL EFFECTIVITY; MANIFOLD PART #Z MATCHING EXISTING BRACKET INSTALLED SHOULD HAVE BEEN ORDERED/INSTALLED FOR THIS ACFT. MR X WAS THE MECH WHO SIGNED FOR THE STEERING MANIFOLD INSTALLATION AND OPS CHKS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE PART WAS ORDERED ON THE PREVIOUS SHIFT THROUGH THE COMPUTERIZED PART SYS. TO ORDER PARTS ON THIS SYS THE ACFT TAIL NUMBER IS ENTERED AND THEN THE PART NUMBER AND IF THE PART NUMBER AND EFFECTIVITY ARE CORRECT THE PART IS ORDERED. THIS TIME IT SLIPPED UP!
