A320 FLT CREW HAS EICAS MESSAGE DURING TKOF ROLL; ELECTS TO CONTINUE; PERFORMS QRH PROCS; DIVERTS AND LANDS.

Narrative

DURING TKOF ROLL; AND JUST PRIOR TO SAYING '80 KTS THRUST SET;' WE RECEIVED A MASTER CAUTION STATING 'ENG #2 COMPRESSOR VANE.' BECAUSE I DID NOT FEEL ANY YAW WITH THE ACFT; DID NOT HEAR ANY NOISE; OR NOTICE ANY ABNORMAL ENG INDICATION; AND WE WERE NOW IN THE HIGH SPD REGIME; I CHOSE TO CONTINUE THE TKOF. THE TKOF WAS NORMAL AND WE FOLLOWED THE ECAM. I THEN MADE SURE THE PNF HAD THE ACFT AND I LOOKED AT THE ACFT MANUAL. THE MANUAL SAYS 'LAND AT NEAREST SUITABLE AIRFIELD' BUT THE ECAM DID NOT. WE LEVELED OFF AND SLOWED DOWN. I VERIFIED WITH THE FO THAT THE IRREGULAR DID SAY LAND AT NEAREST SUITABLE AIRFIELD. ONCE VERIFIED; I NOTIFIED ALL AGENCIES AND DEPTS AS WELL AS FLT ATTENDANTS AND LANDED UNEVENTFULLY AT ORD. AFTER LNDG; I SAW THE FLT MGR IN ORD TO MAKE SURE I HAD COVERED EVERYTHING. TO MY SURPRISE; I WAS TOLD OF THE THIRD STAGE CLAPPER PROBS OR ENG PROBS IN GENERAL. MY 2 QUESTIONS ARE: 1) WHY IS THE INFO ABOUT THE ENGS NOT BEING PUT OUT TO THE LINE? AND 2) WHY DOESN'T THE ECAM STATE 'LAND AT NEAREST SUITABLE ARPT' LIKE OTHER ECAMS.
