A CRJ700 WAS DISPATCHED WITH THE INCORRECT OUTBOARD WING TEMP SENSOR INSTALLED.

A CRJ700 WAS DISPATCHED WITH THE INCORRECT OUTBOARD WING TEMP SENSOR INSTALLED.
Narrative
ON SEP/SAT/06; ZZZ MAINT RECEIVED A CALL FROM MAINT CTL THAT ACFT X WOULD BE IN ZZZ AT XA10 HRS AND WOULD REQUIRE A RE-INSPECT FOR WORK PERFORMED BY NON ERJ-700 MAINT PERSONNEL. WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE ACFT THE CAPT INFORMED ME THAT THE WING ANTI-ICE FAULT THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY CLRED BY NON ERJ-700 PERSONNEL HAD RETURNED. I CALLED MAINT CTL AND WHILE DISCUSSING WHICH MEL APPLIED; WAS INFORMED BY THE CAPT THAT ICING CONDITIONS EXISTED. MAINT CTL THEN DECIDED TO SWAP ACFT X WITH ACFT Y SO THAT THE WING ANTI-ICE DISCREPANCY COULD BE WORKED. BACK IN THE OFFICE; I SEARCHED FOR THE REPLACEMENT SENSOR IN THE IPC. DUE TO OUTSIDE INFLUENCES AND DAILY DISTRS IN THE LEAD OFFICE; I INADVERTENTLY COPIED THE WRONG PART NUMBER DOWN FOR THE TEMP SENSOR. I RETRIEVED FROM STORES WHAT I BELIEVED WAS AN OUTBOARD TEMP SENSOR WHEN IN FACT WHAT I HAD WAS AN INBOARD TEMP SENSOR. REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT WENT ACCORDING TO THE AMM. WHILE COMPLETING THE ENTRIES IN MAINT COMPUTER FOR REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT OF THE TEMP SENSOR; MAINT COMPUTER FLAGGED THE PART NUMBERS AS NOT BEING INTERCHANGEABLE. I LOOKED UP THE PART AGAIN IN THE IPC AND THIS WAS WHEN I DISCOVERED THAT I; IN FACT; HAD LOOKED AT THE WRONG PART NUMBER LISTING; AND HAD INADVERTENTLY INSTALLED THE WRONG SENSOR. REALIZING THE SEVERITY OF THE SITUATION; I IMMEDIATELY NOTIFIED THE TEMPORARY LEAD IN CHARGE AND CALLED MAINT CTL TO NOTIFY THEM OF THE SITUATION.
