CRJ-200 PLT HAS A SECURITY ISSUE DURING PREFLT FOR DEP AT MCO.
Narrative
WHILE OPERATING FROM MCO; WAS APCHED BY A PLT FOR THE USE OF THE COCKPIT JUMP SEAT. HE PRESENTED A PASS WHICH HAD BOTH THE ELECTRONIC VERIFY FIELDS CHKED AS 'N-A.' I ASKED WHY HE WAS NOT VERIFIED AND HE THOUGHT AS A PLT THAT WAS NOT NECESSARY. AFTER A PHONE CALL TO CHIEF PLT WHO VERIFIED THAT ALL PLTS WHO ACTUALLY SIT ON THE COCKPIT JUMP SEAT HAD TO BE VERIFIED. I WENT TO THE GATE WHERE AGAIN I WAS TOLD THAT A PLT DOES NOT NEED TO BE VERIFIED. AFTER EXPLAINING THAT INDEED THEY DO NEED VERIFICATION AND THAT ALLOWING THE TRANSPORTATION IN THE COCKPIT OTHERWISE WOULD BE A MAJOR ERROR; THEY TRIED TO VERIFY. THEY COULD NOT GET HIS VERIFICATION SO I CALLED THE CAPT AGAIN AND HE CONFIRMED THAT WE HAD A PLT BY THAT NAME AND IDENT NUMBER WHICH MATCHED HIS IDENT CARD. THE CAPT THEN SUGGESTED TRYING TO MATCH HIM VIA ANOTHER METHOD; WHICH DID WORK. LATER; THE GATE DETERMINED AND ADVISED HIM THAT THE JUMP SEAT COMPUTER SCREEN REQUIRED A DIFFERENT PREFIX THAN WHAT IS COMMONLY USED VIA THE RESERVATION SYS FOR PASS TRAVEL. I SUGGEST SOME EDUCATION COULD BE VERY HELPFUL. I WOULD SUGGEST A COMPREHENSIVE APCH -- OPS NOTE; MESSAGE; AND COMPANY MAIL. AT A MINIMUM; OUR EMPLOYEES NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT VERIFICATION MUST OCCUR.
