B757 FLT CREW HAS AN ENG MALFUNCTION; DECLARES EMER AND LANDS.

Narrative

WHILE CRUISING AT FL390 AND JUST PRIOR TO THE TOP OF DESCENT POINT ENRTE TO ZZZ; WE RECEIVED A 'R OIL FILTER' EICAS MESSAGE. ALL OTHER ENG PARAMETERS APPEARED NORMAL. WE INITIATED THE 'R OIL FILTER' CHKLIST AND REQUESTED A LOWER ALT FROM ATC. UPON COMPLETING THE CHKLIST WHICH CALLED FOR THE ENG TO BE SHUT DOWN IF THE MESSAGE DID NOT CLR UPON THROTTLE REDUCTION (WHICH IT DIDN'T); WE SECURED THE R ENG ACCORDING TO THE ENG SHUTDOWN CHKLIST AND DECLARED AN EMER WITH ATC. UPON CONFERRING WITH DISPATCH ABOUT POSSIBLE SUITABLE ARPTS; I DECIDED THAT DUE TO OUR PROX TO ZZZ AND OUR CURRENT ALT OF FL240 THAT ZZZ WOULD BE OUR BEST OPTION. DISPATCH AGREED. WE COORDINATED OUR ARR WITH ATC AND REQUESTED EMER EQUIP TO BE STANDING BY. I BRIEFED THE PURSER OF THE SITUATION AND ORDERED A CABIN ADVISORY. WE BRIEFED THE SINGLE ENG APCH AND GAR PROFILES AND PROCEEDED WITH AN UNEVENTFUL APCH AND LNDG. WE PROCEEDED TO THE GATE UNDER OUR OWN PWR. COORD BTWN THE CREW; ATC; AND THE COMPANY WAS PROFESSIONAL AND EFFECTIVE.
