Narrative

I WAS GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS TO TAXI TO RWY 22. I DISCUSSED THE RTE WITH THE FO; BUT FOR SOME REASON SHE SEEMED CONFUSED. SHE ASKED IF I KNEW WHERE I WAS GOING AND I TOLD HER THAT I DID. AFTER I CROSSED RWY 28 FROM THE TERMINAL RAMP THE GND CTLR ASKED WHERE I WAS GOING; AND HE INFORMED ME THAT I CROSSED AN ACTIVE RWY. I WAS CONFUSED AND I ASKED HIM IF A CLRNC TO TAXI TO A RWY WAS ALSO A CLRNC TO CROSS ANY RWYS ENRTE. HE ANSWERED YES; BUT IN MY CASE THERE WAS NO NEED TO CROSS THE RWY. AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME THE FO WAS TELLING ME THAT RWY 22 WAS TO MY R. THEN -- IT HIT ME -- I WAS ALL TURNED AROUND AND I WAS ATTEMPTING TO TAXI OUT TO RWY 4; WHICH REQUIRED CROSSING RWY 28; INSTEAD OF RWY 22 WHICH WAS A STRAIGHT SHOT. NOT REQUIRING THE CROSSING OF ANY RWYS. THE FO WAS TRYING TO TELL ME THIS; BUT I JUST WASN'T GETTING IT. I STARTED MY DUTY DAY EARLY AND I HAD ALREADY FLOWN 3 LEGS; AND WAS ON MY LAST LEG WHEN THE EVENT OCCURRED. THE FO HAD IT RIGHT -- I SHOULD HAVE PAID CLOSER ATTENTION TO HER COMMENTS.
