A CRJ200 DIVERTED FROM ICING CONDITIONS BECAUSE OF EQUIP MALFUNCTIONS. THE CAPT MISTAKENLY ALLOWED THE FO TO LAND AT A SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS ARPT.
Narrative
CLBING OUT OF ZZZ1 DEP RPTED LIGHT RIME ICE ABOVE 17000 FT. WE WERE ASSIGNED FL180 BY ZZZ CTR AND TURNED ON ALL ANTI-ICE. 3 MINS LATER WHILE CLBING TO FL220; WE RECEIVED AN ANTI-ICE DUCT WARNING MESSAGE. I RAN THE QRH PROC AND DETERMINED THAT WE WERE NO LONGER IN ICING CONDITIONS; WITH NO ICE ACCUMULATION ON THE WINGS. AFTER CONSULTING DISPATCH; WE DECIDED TO DIVERT TO ZZZ. THIS WAS DUE TO FORECAST ICING CONDITIONS IN BOTH ZZZ2 AND ZZZ1. WE WERE ABLE TO MAINTAIN VMC CONDITIONS ON THE ENTIRE DSCNT AND APCH TO ZZZ. THE LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL. AFTER LNDG; I REALIZED THAT ZZZ IS A 'SPECIAL' ARPT. THE FO MADE A BEAUTIFUL APCH AND LNDG; BUT HE HAS LESS THAN 100 HRS IN TYPE. I ALLOWED MYSELF TO BECOME TOO BUSY WITH THE DIVERSION AND CHKLIST; AND I MERELY FORGOT THAT ZZZ IS A SPECIAL ARPT. THIS WAS BY NO MEANS INTENTIONAL. ONE CONTRIBUTING FACTOR IS THAT BOTH PLTS WERE UNFAMILIAR WITH ZZZ. IT WAS THE FO'S FIRST TIME THERE AND MY THIRD TIME THERE OVER THE COURSE OF 8 YRS. IN THE FUTURE I WILL NOT ALLOW MYSELF TO GET HURRIED; AND I WILL THOROUGHLY REVIEW ALL OF THE ARPT PAGES.
