A CRJ200 MFD FAILED ON CLB OUT. A VAGUELY TITLED QRH PROCEDURE 'DISPLAY CONTROL PANEL FAILURE' APPLIED BUT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM.

Synopsis

A CRJ200 MFD FAILED ON CLB OUT. A VAGUELY TITLED QRH PROCEDURE 'DISPLAY CONTROL PANEL FAILURE' APPLIED BUT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM.

Narrative

WE WERE DEPARTING ZZZ ENRTE TO ZZZ1. ON CLBOUT I NOTICED THAT MY MFD HAD FAILED. I ALERTED THE CAPT AND HE SAID THAT HE HAD THE AIRPLANE AND THE RADIOS; IF I WOULD PULL OUT THE QRH PROC FOR AN MFD FAILURE. HOWEVER; ONCE I DID SO I WAS UNABLE TO FIND THE PROC FOR AN MFD FAILURE. I THEN CALLED DISPATCH AND GOT XFERRED TO MAINT AND ADVISED THEM OF THE PROB. I ASKED THEM IF THEY HAD ANY GUIDANCE ON A QRH PROC AND WHETHER OR NOT THERE WAS A NEED TO RETURN TO THE ARPT. MAINT SAID THAT A SHUTDOWN OF THE ELECTRICAL SYS AND A REBOOT WOULD MOST LIKELY FIX THE PROB; BUT BEYOND THAT THERE WAS NO OTHER GUIDANCE GIVEN AND THERE WAS NO NEED TO RETURN. THE CAPT THEN XFERRED CTLS TO ME AND SAID THAT HE WANTED TO SEE IF HE COULD FIND SOMETHING. A FEW MINS LATER HE FOUND THE CHKLIST FOR 'DISPLAY CTL PANEL FAILURE.' HE COMPLETED THE CHKLIST; HOWEVER; THE MFD WAS STILL INOP ON MY SIDE. WE CONTINUED TO ZZZ1 AND AS SOON AS WE TURNED THE SYS OFF AND BACK ON THE MFD RETURNED AS WORKING NORMALLY. I BELIEVE ONE OF THE CONTRIBUTING FACTORS OF MY FAILURE TO FIND THE CORRECT CHKLIST WAS THAT I WAS LOOKING FOR THE VERBIAGE OF 'MFD FAILURE.' ALTHOUGH I THINK THE CHKLIST NAME IS VAGUE; I AM SURE THAT BETTER KNOWLEDGE ON MY PART WOULD HAVE NEGATED THE PROB. IN THE FUTURE I WILL BE SURE TO HAVE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE QRH AND WHERE TO FIND PARTICULAR FAILURES.
