CARJ FLT CREW EXPERIENCES DRAMATIC ENGINE FAILURE ON TKOF ROLL INCLUDING MAX ITT READINGS. REPORT OF SMALL FIRE EXHAUST TRIGGERS SUBSEQUENT EVACUATION.

Narrative

WE TAXIED INTO POS ON RWY AND WERE CLRED FOR TKOF. CAPT ADVANCED THRUST LEVERS SLOWLY AND AT MAYBE 50% N1 WE HEARD A LOUD 'BOOM.' WE BOTH LOOKED AT THE PRIMARY EICAS PAGE TO SCAN ENG INDICATIONS. THERE WE SAW THAT THE R ENG ITT HAD PEAKED TO ITS MAX TEMP; INDICATING ROUGHLY 930 DEGS C; NEARLY INSTANTANEOUSLY. I STATED 'ENG FAILURE' TO CAPT AND HE RESPONDED 'ABORTING TKOF.' HE THEN DIRECTED ME TO NOTIFY ATC OF OUR ABORT AND THE APPARENT REASON. HE THEN CALLED FOR THE REJECTED TKOF ITEMS WHICH I CONFIRMED WERE COMPLETED. WE EXITED THE RWY AND CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP ON A TXWY. CAPT MADE A PA ANNOUNCEMENT TO THE PAX SAYING WHY WE HAD DISCONTINUED TKOF. I VERIFIED I HAD COMPLETED ALL ITEMS BY LOOKING AT THE CARD. WE THEN PROCEEDED TO THE QRH SEVERE ENG DAMAGE ON GND CHKLIST. THE CAPT ASKED FOR THE EMER VEHICLES AS A PRECAUTION AND ASKED TWR CTLR IF HE NOTICED ANY SMOKE OR FLAMES FROM THE R ENG. HE STATED THAT HE DID NOT SEE ANYTHING. WE DID NOT HAVE ANY FIRE INDICATIONS IN THE COCKPIT THAT ARE ASSOCIATED WITH AN ENG FIRE. THE FIRE TRUCKS CAME AND BEGAN TO SPRAY FIRE SUPPRESSANT FOAM AS A PRECAUTION. WE WERE THEN TOLD BY THE TWR CTLR THAT THE FIREMAN RELAYED TO HIM THAT THERE WAS A SMALL FIRE EMITTING FROM THE REAR OF THE JET PIPE. WE THEN DECIDED TO COMMENCE PAX EVAC IMMEDIATELY. CAPT CALLED FOR PAX EVAC ITEMS AND MADE A SECOND PA DIRECTING PAX TO EVAC THE ACFT CALMLY AND QUICKLY AND TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS OF THE FLT ATTENDANT. I COMPLETED THE ACTIONS FOR FO AS DIRECTED BY CHKLIST; PROCEEDED TO QRH CHKLIST FOR EVAC AND VERIFIED THAT ALL ITEMS WERE COMPLETED. AFTER ALL PAX WERE CONFIRMED TO HAVE EXITED THE ACFT; MYSELF; CAPT; AND FLT ATTENDANT EXITED THE ACFT ALSO. I TOOK WITH ME THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND CRASH AX. ALL PAX GATHERED A SAFE DISTANCE OFF THE NOSE OF THE ACFT AND WERE ESCORTED BACK TO TERMINAL.
