Synopsis

A CRJ200'S THROTTLE CABLE FAILED IN FLT AT CLB POWER. THE ENG WAS SHUT DOWN; AN EMER DECLARED; AND THE FLT LANDED AN A NEARBY ARPT.

Narrative

ON JUL/XA/08 AT AROUND XA45; MY CREW AND I EXPERIENCED AN ENG PROB THAT REQUIRED US TO SHUT DOWN THE #2 ENG. WE DEDUCED THAT WE HAD A THRUST LEVER CABLE BREAK AS OUR N1 SPD WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THRUST LEVER MOVEMENT. THE FO WAS FLYING. I IMMEDIATELY ADVISED ATC OF OUR SITUATION; THAT WE WOULD NEED VECTORS WHILE I FIGURED OUT WHERE WE WANTED TO GO; AND I WOULD GET BACK TO HIM SHORTLY. THE FO CONTINUED TO FLY AND TOOK THE #1 RADIO AS I TRIED TO REACH OUR COMPANY ON COMMERCIAL RADIO. THERE WAS A MEDICAL EMER TAKING PLACE SO I COULDN'T TALK TO OUR COMPANY USING THAT METHOD. I SENT THEM MESSAGES ON OUR ACARS FREQ AND DECIDED TO HEAD TO ZZZ1. WE HAD JUST TAKEN OFF FROM ZZZ2 AND WERE INITIALLY HEADING TO ZZZ2. WE OPTED TO HEAD TO ZZZ1 BECAUSE IT WAS THE CLOSEST ARPT WITH LONG RWYS. WE ADVISED ATC OF THIS AND DECLARED AN EMER. SOMEWHERE IN RUNNING THE EMER CHKLISTS AND TRYING TO GET A HOLD OF OUR COMPANY WE MISSED A FREQ CHANGE FROM ATC. IT WAS A CHANGE WITH ZZZ APCH. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE REPORTER STATED THAT THIS WAS THE FIRST RECORDED THROTTLE CABLE BREAK THAT COULD BE FOUND.
