Narrative
L ENG FAILED DURING CLB THROUGH FL230. DECLARED EMER; RAN CHKLISTS; GAVE FLT ATTENDANTS CABIN ADVISORY AND GOT CLRNC TO RETURN TO ZZZ. APCH AND LNDG WERE SMOOTH AND NORMAL; WITH A FEW EXCEPTIONS. WE WERE HANDED OFF TO 3 CTR FREQS AND 2 APCH FREQS; AND EVERY CTLR ASKED FOR NATURE OF EMER; FUEL AND SOULS ON BOARD. WE ACARS'ED DISPATCH WITH MESSAGE WE HAD ENG FAIL AND WERE RETURNING TO ZZZ. AFTER LNDG; IT BECAME APPARENT THAT OPS AND MAINT DID NOT KNOW WE WERE COMING BACK. WE COLD NOT GET OPS OR RAMP TO TALK TO US AND GET US A GATE. AT THIS TIME WE WERE ON TXWY M AND EMER CREWS WERE CHKING ACFT EXTERIOR FOR DAMAGE; FIRE; LEAKS; ETC. WE FINALLY GOT A GATE AND GOT THROUGH TO MAINT AND PARKED AT GATE. REINITIALIZED ACARS AND ATTEMPTED TWICE TO PUT WRITE-UP; INCLUDING OVERWT LNDG INFO; INTO MAINT HISTORY. ACARS SAID ERROR/PLANE/FLT BOTH TIMES. TALKED TO SEVERAL MECHS AND DECIDED TO WRITE UP THE EVENT ON A NON ROUTINE MAINT FORM. MECH TOOK LOGBOOK AND WE DISCUSSED THE EVENT; INCLUDING THE OVERWT LNDG; WHICH WAS AT 210000 LBS. I ASSUMED ALL WAS PROPERLY DOCUMENTED AT THAT TIME AND WENT TO OPS TO WRITE SAFETY RPT ON THE EVENT. I GOT VERY LITTLE COOPERATION FROM ANYBODY EXCEPT UNION AND THE FLT MGR. I CANNOT SWEAR THAT ALL PERTINENT INFO WAS ON THE MAINT FORM; BUT THE FO AND I BOTH THOUGHT WE HAD COMPLETED OUR JOB BEFORE WE LEFT THE ARPT.
