AN A320 FLT CREW LOST GREEN HYD SYS IN CRUISE FLT. THEY COORDINATED WITH DISPATCH AND MAINT BEFORE DECIDING TO DECLARE AN EMERGENCY AND DIVERT TO THE NEAREST SUITABLE ARPT.
Narrative
AN ECAM EVENT OCCURRED (GREEN HYD LO PRESSURE INDICATION) AT XA00Z WHILE WE WERE LEVEL AT FL350. SYS DISPLAY PAGE WAS CONSULTED AND GREEN HYD QUANTITY INDICATION WAS IN THE LOWER AMBER PARAMETER. CAPT CONTINUED TO FLY AND HANDLE RADIOS AND THE FO RAN THE ECAM CHKLIST. WE HAD AN ACR Y JUMPSEAT RIDER AND WE USED HIM AS AN ADDITIONAL RESOURCE. THE ECAM WAS COMPLETED AND THE HYD SYS DISPLAY PAGE EVALED. AT XA07Z WE ADVISED DISPATCH; ATC; MAINT; AND FLT ATTENDANTS OF THE ACFT STATUS. WE DECLARED AN EMER; OBTAINED A REROUTE TO ZZZ1; AND INSTRUCTED THE FLT ATTENDANTS ON THE 'CABIN ADVISORY' AWARENESS LEVEL. THE PAX WERE ADVISED OF OUR SITUATION AND WERE CONTINUOUSLY UPDATED WITH REGARD TO OUR STATUS WITH THE EMER. IN ADDITION; THE PAX WERE ADVISED OF THE EVENTS TO ANTICIPATE AS WE PROGRESSED TO ZZZ1 (IE; EARLY EXTENSION OF THE LNDG GEAR; EMER VEHICLES ON THE GND; AND THE NEED FOR A TUG ON THE RWY). PERFORMANCE CONSIDERATIONS: FO USED ALL RESOURCES TO CALCULATE THE PENALTY FOR LNDG WITHOUT THE GREEN HYD SYS. WE REQUESTED DISPATCH TO CALCULATE THE LNDG PERFORMANCE AND COMPARED VALUES. WE USED 140000 LBS AS A PLANNED LNDG WT IN ZZZ1. OUR ZFW WAS 126.4 AND WE NEEDED TO BURN DOWN TO AT LEAST 13.6 ON THE FUEL TO CONFORM TO PLANNED LNDG WT. WE COORDINATED A DSCNT AND A LOW ALT (FL230 12000 FT) HOLD AT ZZZ VOR IN ORDER TO REDUCE OUR FUEL LOAD TO THE PLANNED BINGO FUEL OF 13.6. WE DEPARTED ZZZ VOR AT OUR BINGO WT AND FUEL LOAD. WE REQUESTED RWY XXL AT ZZZ1 AND A 30 MI FINAL IN ORDER TO MANUALLY EXTEND THE GEAR AND PREPARE THE ACFT FOR THE LNDG CONFIGN. MANUAL LNDG GEAR EXTENSION CHKLIST WAS COMPLETED AND THE SYS WORKED AS ADVERTISED IN THE FLT MANUAL. UNEVENTFUL APCH AND LNDG WAS ACCOMPLISHED AND EMER VEHICLES IMMEDIATELY RESPONDED. UPON LNDG AND APPLICATION OF BRAKES; FO ADVISED FLT ATTENDANTS TO REMAIN SEATED. AT XC09Z THE ENGS WERE SHUT DOWN AND THE EMER RESPONSE CREWS INSPECTED THE ACFT AND ADVISED US THAT THE ACFT WAS FREE OF ANY FOREIGN SUBSTANCES OR NOTICEABLE DAMAGE. COMPANY MECHS PERFORMED AN INSPECTION AND CONCURRED WITH THE OBSERVATION OF THE EMER CREW. A TOW-IN CHKLIST WAS ACCOMPLISHED AND A SUPER-TUG BROUGHT THE ACFT TO GATE. WE DISCUSSED THE INCIDENT WITH MAINT; DISPATCH AND THE CHIEF PLT. WE ELECTED TO END THE EVENING AT A HOTEL IN ZZZ1.
