A CL605 FLT CREW TAXIED ACROSS THE HOLD SHORT LINE FOR 23L AT YIP IN PART BECAUSE IT IS LOCATED ON RWY 27R.

Narrative

ACFT WAS CLRED TO TAXI FROM E RAMP TO RWY 23L. ACFT WAS INSTRUCTED TO 'TAXI TO RWY 23L VIA E RAMP AND RWY 27R; HOLD SHORT 23L.' COPLT TAXIED N ON E RAMP; E1; ONTO RWY 27R AND PAST HOLD SHORT LINES ON RWY 27R. COPLT WAS INSTRUCTED BY PIC TO STOP. COPLT DID NOT SEE HOLD SHORT LINES ON RWY 27R. I THINK THE BIGGEST CONTRIBUTING FACTOR WAS THE UNUSUAL PLACEMENT OF THE HOLD SHORT LINES ON RWY 27R. I NEVER SAW HOLD SHORT LINES ON A RWY BEFORE AND APPARENTLY DIDN'T SEE THESE. UNFORTUNATELY THE CAPT WAS HEADS DOWN RUNNING A CHKLIST AT THE WORST POSSIBLE TIME. WE WON'T MAKE THIS MISTAKE AGAIN. A LEARJET ON FINAL WAS ASKED TO SIDESTEP TO RWY 23R. AS FAR AS I KNOW THERE WAS NOT A TFC CONFLICT BTWN OUR 2 PLANES. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 800933: THE CONTRIBUTING FACTORS WERE ME NOT HAVING MY HEAD OUTSIDE WHILE WE WERE IN MOTION. THE PF THOUGHT IT WAS A BIT CONFUSING AS TO WHERE HE HAD TO HOLD SHORT FOR RWY 23L. FROM NOW ON I WILL HAVE MY HEAD OUTSIDE ANYTIME WE ARE IN MOTION WHILE ON THE GND. I'M NOT SURE HOW THE RWY TO RWY HOLD SHORT MARKINGS COULD BE IMPROVED; BUT IT IS A BIT DIFFERENT FROM TXWY TO RWY MARKINGS. SINCE THE MAJORITY OF TAXIING TO RWYS IS DONE ON A TXWY I CAN SEE HOW IT CAN BE A BIT CONFUSING WHEN TAXIING TO A RWY FROM A RWY.
